Police: Swedes join extremist fighting in Somalia

Swedish security police say at least 20 young men with Swedish passports have traveled to Somalia to join extremist groups in their fight against the government.

Swedish Security Service spokesman Patrik Peter says the men are training in al-Shabab camps and participating in the battles.

 

Al-Shabab, which the U.S. considers a terrorist group, is trying to overthrow the Western-backed government and establish an Islamic state.

 

Peter also said Friday that some other people have gone to Somalia with fake passports from Sweden and other Western countries, including Britain.
