Women in islam versus women in the judaeo-Christian tradition

I always knew that such accusations on Islam being oppressive to women were unfounded, especially in comparison that what the author brings forward!

But, I'm sure a Jewish or Christian person would argue that they live in secular countries (including Israel), so these norms no longer apply. Even that's not true, though, considering that a bride in a Western, secular marriage still has to pay for her wedding. And talk about the notion of Eve the Seductress still in pratice---I'm sure that's the justification for portraying women in the West as some kind of lusty beast that can/will/does use her sexuality to get anything she wants, including selling toothpaste on t.v.!
