Somali MPs snub UN bid to broker relocation deal

 

Nairobi, Kenya, 04/28 - Somali lawmakers currently in Mogadishu snubbed a key meeting in Nairobi called by a specialised UN agency and President Abdullahi Yusuf to break the deadlock over the relocation of their government on exile to their war-battered capital.

 

The UN Political Office for Somalia and co-chair of the Joint Coordination and Monitoring Committee (CMC), a UN- led group of international aid agencies working in Somalia, said here on Wednesday the Somali MPs snubbed the committee`s meeting which sought to end a row between the MPs and the cabinet over the relocation plans.

 

"The issue is that the president and some members of the government want to relocate to what they see as a more secure town in Somalia until Mogadishu`s rival factions cede powers to a beefed up police force," said a UN official who declined to be named.

 

"We recognise the efforts of these parliamentarians currently in the capital but we feel there should be national dialogue that everyone agrees on. We appeal for them all to come for such a dialogue in Nairobi," he said in an interview.

 

But the MPs have snubbed the call and vowed to continue their attempts to pacify Mogadishu.

 

"Going to Kenya would undermine our effort to pacify Mogadishu, which is a crucial part of the relocation of the Somali government," said MP Omar Hashi Aden, a spokesperson for a group of 80 ministers and MPs currently in Somalia.

 

Aden stressed that the lawmakers, some of whom are also warlords, were surprised by the call that was also made by the UNCMC.

 

"How could they dare stop a pacification process? We were elected to serve the people of Somalia and not to stay in Nairobi. Neither the Somali officials nor the outsiders talked to us about what we are doing before they came up with the idea of our leaving Mogadishu and returning to Nairobi. It is very big error," Aden said.

They are doing a great job and I wish the pacification bears fruit. They have no business in going to nairobi and should stay put where they belong and do their work.

What work? These folks can't even agree on opening the air/seaports or even lifting a SINGLE roadblock, yet. What work are they doing other than staying in well-guarded hotels (much like the Arta folks) and meeting with degenerate militia leaders to no avail?

 

Please, share with us the important 'national service' these distinguished MPs are doing in Mogadishu. Provide examples of roadblocks they've removed, alliances they've made between important political and militia leaders, etc. Has Mogadishu changed since their arrival? Will it change - given that everyone concerned seems to be doing plenty of lip service but little in the way of action?

Well, they tried didn't they? and still trying which makes them better than A/Y and his captious supporters who sit on their behinds and do what they do best of blaming everyone else.

 

What would had been done and said in Nairobi had been done and said and all government members should leave there to any destination they think is suitable for them. They can talk inside Somalia, anywhere. It will be considered one big step closer to success had all the members came to Somalia.

 

With some people's mentality, they will never be happy with someone's efforts from Xamar. For such captious hypocritic people, It is easier for them to find faults than to acknowledge any effort however fruitless it may seem.

You still managed to miss the nuxur of my post: that ANOTHER disagreement between the Mogadishu drug/warlords was, is and will never be genuine. They talk the talk, but can they walk the walk?

 

For the other MPs - such Cumar Xaashi - who are not drug/warlords, I feel sorry for them because they're walking a path that leads to a dead end. History has shown this, sxb, yet you continue to entrust the future of Mogadishu to the same men who destroyed it (and continue to do so with impunity, thanks to residents who think like you).

 

I believe that an agreement signed and led by the same men of destruction will lead nowhere - but will surely be entertainment and, in Somali, caga juglayn to make fellow Somalis - and esp. Mogadishu residents - think that the drug/warlords are actually doing something POSITIVE.

 

Not welcoming the PM is a wonderful start. BTW, Indhocade is not a member of the TFG, yet he had the mind to welcome the PM and his delegation - while Caato, Yalaxow, Qanyare the "peace builders" of Mogadishu & members of the TFG - didn't even show up. Like I said, another wonderful move on the checkered career of liars, betrayers and overt murderers. Reer Muqdisho aren't dumb - they see these drug/warlords saying they're "helping" them yet they don't wanna welcome their own PM, while the residents of Mogadishu welcomed him by the thousands. Isn't that funny to you or would you rather believe an excuse Qanyare is sure to come up with soon?
