Somaliland's political parties sign an accord to reschedule elections to 2008

Hargeysa(Qaran)-A ceremony was held today at Maansoor Hotel in Hargeysa in which all three Somaliland political parties, UDUB,KULMIYE and UCID, signed an agreement to uphold the decision made recently by the Somaliland Elections Commission to rescheduled both the Presidential and local assembly elections until the summer of 2008.

 

The agreement was signed by the chairman of the National Elections Commission, Mudane Maxamed Yuusuf Axmed, the chairman of the KULMIYE party, Mudane Axmed Maxamud Maxamed (Siilaanyo), the chairman of the UCID, Mudane Eng.Faysal Cali Waraabe and the secretary-general of UDUB, Mudane Maxamud Ismaciil Bulaale.

 

The main tenets of the accord are as follows.

 

1. All voter registration to be completed by June 10th, 2008.

 

2. Elections for Local Assemblies to be conducted on July 1st, 2008

 

3. The Elections for the President of Somaliland to be held on August 31st, 2008.

 

4. That any obstacles to this scheduled be resolved through dialogue and discussion.
