Send this news article Arab league The Arab League followed IGAD (East Africa Inter Governmental Agency for Development) to open a new office in Jowhar, Somalia. Arab League reps, who had talks with the president and the prime minister in the past few days, announced their immediate intention to open a new office in Jowhar. In a joint press conference with Somali officials, Mr. Samir Husni, the head of the delegate talked about the league’s active role in Somalia’s rebuilding process. It is the first real Arab League presence since 1991 in Somalia. IGAD opened a similar office in Jowhar earlier this year and is planning to hold its yearly meeting in Somalia for the first time in the organization’s existence. Somalia belongs to both organizations. Although it is still facing many obstacles, the new government seems to have sold its agenda to the international community. Jowhar is filled with representatives from international organizations and countries such as the European Union and World Bank. After the press conference, the delegation along with President Abdulahi Yusuf and other government officials visited a new building that will host the Arab league’s office in Somalia.
