Somali parliament approves Anti-terror bill

Mogadishu 03, May.07 ( Sh.M.Network) The Somali transitional parliament based in Baidoa ratified anti-terror bill on Thursday. 169 parliamentarians who have attended the session voted for the bill with the exception of 14 that remained silent.

 

Before the ratification of this bill, MPs debated openly over the rational time to approve such a law.

 

Many have later concurred that to enforce the bill would serve the general interest of the Somali population with regards to the battles the government backed by Ethiopian soldiers was engaged with the Islamic fighters in the past week, according to an MP who asked to remain anonymous as he was not allowed to talk to the press over the issue.

 

Aden Madobe, the speaker of the parliament, who was chairing the parliament session, has finally announced the results of their meeting.

 

The interim parliament members have formerly debated about the anti-terror law and it was postponed as they could not agree on several articles in the law.

 

Meanwhile three nights of curfew on Afgoi district, 30 km south of the capital, was lifted Thursday. The government imposed the curfew on the district after fighting between two rival clans within the government soldiers fought.
