President Faroole names his son as one of his advisors

Maybe in your opinion it isn't. But most of Puntlands top news sites are all reporting it. Doesn't Puntland have more qualified people with advanced degrees? I know President Faroole was a PHD candidate, what is his sons education background in Australia?

To many this is huge news. Many are seeing clear signs of nepotism here.

^Take is easy. PL is in a third world country not to mention the poorest and most corrupt. The son can't be any worst than the father. You're making it as if a mass genocide is taking place. Father, son, uncle, or brother, that's the routine in that part of the world.

You are right and family usually does benefit in that part of the world, but to make it official like President Faroole did, now that's something new. It is just so shocking.

There is nothing wrong with this appointment.Faroole Jr was already handling the media side side of the new Puntland regime, and yes he is capable of this role. Furthermore there is no nepotism in here cause you appoint this sort of position to person you most trust, and there is no person you can trust more than your son.

Do you think it is his position to justify it? Do you think politically it is a wise move to officially announce your son as your advisor?

Do you think the leaders of country/state/province in the world could get away with that? and what leader would offically name their son as an advisor???????

Come on, lets be honest here. You know the Presidents move is ridiculous.

I would not have advised the president to make this kind of selection. It cultivates that familiar "nepotism" narrative at best, and conjures up an unpleasant image of being out of touch with the feelings of the masses. The selection of his son as an advisor may not be a big deal (we all know the young fella advises his father), but elevating his son's counsel to a “salaried position” can be seen as “naas-nuujin” and autocratic both of which are hardly the stature to build a democracy around. The irony of this is that the timing of the announcement comes against the backdrop of a bout of bad publicity the administration is already coping with.

In the grand scheme of things, I wouldn’t put too much weight into this appointment. This is just a temporary fodder for the Somali fadhi-ku-dirirs. As the son has already pointed out in that above radio interview, he has as much right to hold a public position as a “muwaadin” as anyone else.

Good luck to him.
