The internationally recognized Somali government which until then was on the defensive reclaimes Mogadishu after a 16 year gap, in which the capital had seen no government what so ever and was in the hands of clan militias which looted national institutions, killed and maimed thousands of innocent civilians, exiled more than a million and occupied every inch of the capital and the fertile regions stretching to the city of Kismayu. 3. Government troops & AU allies overcome the urban fighting which was instigated by the remnants of the Clan Courts led by the chief looter Ahmed Diriye and Xaad. Results of 2007 By taking the capital and crippling the most powerful anti-governent groups the TFG made a great stride towards securing the nation and stamping its authority. There has been two important reactions to this considerable progress. 1. Denail and crocodile tears from the defeated groups support base [clan base], with many organized fundraising to by more landmines, funds for assasins all disguised as benevolent assistance to the displaced and civilian victims from their callous violent actions and calls for clan-Jihad. 2. The secessionists holed up in the North West have started to become active in Somaliweyn affairs, giving succour to leaders of the defeated as well as making threats and militia movements into SSC regions. 3. The various small armed clans such as those in kismayu, Mataban, Guriceel and other distant areas have seen an opportunity like the secessionists in the government’s concentration on Mogadishu, Baidoa and thus have tried to grap land and influence. All these reactions are temporary, not strategically nor post any major threat to the TFG. The Somali government has rightly concentrated on Mogadishu and building up its armed forces and other institutions to rushing to provinces such as SOOL, GALGADUUD & LOWER JUBBA.
