Somalia: Ministers told to rebuild offices

Somali’s interim president Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed Saturday ordered the cabinet ministers to renovate the former buildings within three months

a bid to step up the efforts to develop the government’s institutions.

 

His statement made in the opening ceremony at the ministry of land and space which happened at Shanghani district in Mogadishu.

 

In his speech, Mr. Yusuf told the ministers to do all what they can to resume their ministries. “By all means, the departments should be in operational within matter of days,”

 

The president’s remarks came as the cabinet moving slowly to operate some ministries. All the ministerial buildings have not had maintenance since the fall of the former regime in 1991.

 

On Friday, Somalia government made new deals with the Chinese government over rebuilding the entire infrastructure of the capital following the arrival of the Chinese ambassador to Kenya in Mogadishu as the government spokesman said.

 

Speaking on behalf of Somalia, President Abdulahi Yusuf Ahmed signed the new contract on rebuilding the institutions while on the China side, the ambassador, Du Qiwen signed the deal.

 

Abdi Haji Gobdon, the spokesman for the government said before signing the agreement the Chinese delegation supervised several locations in the capital including former cigarette and match factory, Mogadishu’s football stadium and other key places, which the Chinese company had previously built.
