Jacaylbaro Posted April 15, 2008 Hargeisa (QARAN)- The Somaliland Foreign Minister, Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, appearing before the House of Elders stated that there have been encouraging developments in Somaliland's engagement of Arab nations. Appearing before the House of Elders, Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed stated " The Somaliland issue, in terms of recognition, is progressing very well, the honourable members have read some of the positive articles on Somaliland over the past year, also of the positive engagements Somaliland have made with nations such as the United States of America to name one, and we are all aware that the matter is currently under the purview of the African Union" "There are several countries in which have managed to establish strong relationship and we have requested their support in making the recognition of Somaliland a reality, and let me assure all honourable members of the House, the government of Somaliland will leave no stone unturned in attaining our goals", stated Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, the Somaliland Foreign minister. Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed also stated "The recent visit of President Rayale to the United States of America has begun to bear fruit, the reciprocal visit by Dr. Jendayi Frazer, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, is but one of them. Dr.Frazer's call for investment in Somaliland to maintain and strengthen democracy, the economy and development are a source of satisfaction for the people of Somaliland, and a signal for the rest of the world to engage Somaliland" "The recent visit to the United Arab Emirates by the President marked a new chapter in Somaliland's engagement with our Arab brothers and sisters. The Foreign ministry has received an invitation from the Sudanese government which expect to lead to a visit by the President" added Mudane Abdillahi Duale. Continuing his statement to the House of Elders, Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, the Somaliland Foreign minister stated " I had the opportunity to meet with the Secretary-General of the Arab League to request a high level delegation to be sent to Somaliland, and this request was favourably received, and we remain hopeful that such a visit will take place" "The government of Somaliland has been in discussion with several Arab nations to permit the use of our passport, following the example of many other countries across the world, and we are confident of positive developments in this area" added the Somaliland Foreign minister, Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed Duale. Addressing the issue of the recent decision by the House of Elders regarding the extension of President Rayale mandate, Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed stated " The elections and the completion of the democratic process in Somaliland is something all of us are confident will take place. I believe the decision by the House of Elders is a constitutional decision which needs to be respected and adhered to" Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed, the Somaliland Foreign minister commented on the visit of a delegation from the European Union and stated " The Somaliland government has constantly assured the international community that the upcoming elections will be held, just like all previous elections had been held, sadly, the EU delegation appeared to have been influenced by those unable to wait a few more months for all logistical aspects to be completed, so I advise the parties and the elections commission to adhere to the recent decision regarding the elections, Somaliland doesn't need a political crisis, because the voters will have the last word and will decided who is fit to lead the country" concluded Mudane Abdillahi Mohamed Duale, the Somaliland Foreign minister. Also appearing before the House of Elders, Mudane Saeed Mohamed Nur, the minister of State at the Foreign Office, supported the decision of the House in extending the mandate of the President to allow for the completion of the voter registration process and stressed the commitment of the department in furthering the issue of Somaliland's recognition. Mudane Sheikh Ahmed Sheikh Nuh Furre, the current acting chair, thanked the Ministers for their presentation and statements.
