Improving Somalia from Within: Disbanding Mogadishu Based Elders Group

The role of traditional leadership in Somalia has been in the promotion of peace, conflict resolution, developing peaceful treaties with neighboring communities and maintaining serene coexistence throughout the nation. Even during the worst days of the civil war traditional leaders by and large have maintained their solemn duty, kept above the fray while maintaining their peace making roles.

Why only Mogadishu Based Elders group ??

Because they are the most backward of the lot!!! and i am from mogadishu before i am accused of u know what

Disband the current structure and composition of the elders group, and create a more representative and unified elders group composed of all Somali groups inhabiting Mogadishu city.

 

 

But the traditional elders in Somalia should be empowered not weakened, they are part of society, and should in harmony cooperate with the other segments of society: civil society organizations, business groups, young students, religious leaders etc.

 

The current Mogadishu-based elders group have done their bit of resistance and should as such be respected.

Why can't the the writer not make it clear, he has issues with H clan title in the name of the orginisation ( which i agree with ), but i don't see why their role needs to attacked or even be changed. To date they have always took the middle ground in any dispute amongst the factions in Mogadishu and have been amongst the most vocal and respectible voice in condeming the occupation and the formost advocates for rights of those live in Mogadishu.
