UN 'frustrated' by lack of progress in Somalia

Recommended Posts

The head of the United Nations refugee agency in Somalia, Guillermo Bettoki, says he has never felt so frustrated with the lack of political progress in the country.

Somalia has been fragmented since 1991, and the interim government depends on foreign aid and Ethiopian military support.

Mr Bettoki says it is still too dangerous for the UNHCR to move its operations back to Somalia from Nairobi.

"We are trying to set up operational bases in areas that are safer than the big cities like Mogadishu where we could have staff located for a few days or for a few weeks coordinating and delivering the work that we want to do," he said.

"But certainly I don't see moving back the main offices to Mogadishu as we would like to in the near future."

They should be, because by they should have realized the source of the problem is what they actually think is a nation's government.
