President Kibaki meets President Yusuf on Somali peace

President Mwai Kibaki today held a consultative meeting with Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed at State House Mombasa.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the resurgence of fighting that is threatening to derail the peace process in Somalia.

 

The President of the Transitional Federal Government of the Republic of Somalia briefed President Kibaki on the recent developments in his country.

 

President Kibaki, who is currently the chairman of IGAD, expressed his personal commitment to the peaceful resolution of the Somali conflict, saying Kenya cannot enjoy peace when her neighbours are at war.

 

He appealed to the parties involved to put aside their differences and embrace dialogue as a way of restoring peace and stability in the war-torn country.

 

Earlier, President Kibaki had chaired a national security committee meeting at State House Mombasa.
