Ms DD Posted March 29, 2007 Salaam Aleykum This is promoted by an international American muslim organisation who have actually started to fund this initiative. The project is about womens rights and also enabling women to interpret the Quran to balance the gender aspect which so far have been ignored by our male folks or so they say. The project is about Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equity: You can watch the video on the link that says: Video Clip of Women's Islamic Initiative in Spirituality and Equity Launch, New York or Visit google video on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Oj1zqphlA Muslim women rights and Shariah: First Woman Fatwa Council Planned http://www.asmasociety.org/wise/article_islamonline.pdf Muslim feminists in NY want to start Koran council By Manuela Badawy: http://www.asmasociety.org/wise/article_reuters.pdf According to the above article the The leader of the initiative, Daisy Khan, who serves as executive director of the American Society for Muslim Advancement, stressed the importance of the council. "Islam is a religion of law, and it is important to express the principles of social justice within the framework of Islamic law," she said. "This is why we need muftias, in order to do that. Otherwise, it falls on deaf ears" My Comment: I am not too sure of this at all. Are we now going to feminise Islam? I know the majority of translators and scholars were men but at least most have backed up their insertions, interpretation by the Quran and Hadith. It is mentioned in the WISE report ( http://www.asmasociety.org/wise/index2.html ) that strict sharia law was not divine because it was created by men and should be changed to incorporate women’s rights. They think this is the essence of muslim womens rights and hence need Women Legislators/Law makers who have the expertise and Islamic background to interpret the Quran just like the men. What do you think?
Nur Posted March 30, 2007 Dhucdhuc The above phenomena belongs to the following category of later day Islam, dont take it to serious, these falacious latered states of Islam and Quraan frequently surface whenever Islam spreads and they fail to control it, so they opt to create a new Islam, new Fiqh, and yet new modern Islam, please read an old eNuri lampoon on a similar issue: http://www.somaliaonline.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=3;t=000805 Nur
