UN envoy to Somalia urges respect of Somali sovereignty

Citiraaf quuq......

Try harder you dreamers of Somali nation...

The top UN envoy for Somalia Francois Lonseny Fall on Saturday urged all countries neighboring Somalia to respect its sovereignty, Egypt's news agency MENA reported.

Following a meeting with Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, Fall said that Somalia's neighbors should also show respect to the UN decision banning arms sales to Mogadishu.

Responding to reports that Ethiopian forces pushed into Somalia, Fall urged Somalia's neighbors to desist from acts that could adversely affect the peace process and to give the different Somali parties a chance to finalize their dialogue.

The UN envoy noted that his talks with Moussa dealt with the Somali crisis and commended the role of the Arab League.

"There are chances for peace and we should not let these slip away," he was quoted by MENA as saying.

Fall went on to say that he agreed with Moussa to expedite the dialogue between the government of Somalia and the increasingly powerful Islamic Courts, which control much of southern Somalia.

Somalia was plunged into lawlessness in 1991 after the ousting of strongman Mohamed Siad Barre and the nation of some 10 million population was then divided into a patchwork of fiefdoms governed by unruly warlords.
