General Duke Posted January 9, 2009 Puntland is the new power of Somalia. It has been a decade since the advent of the Puntland state, from a mere idea with no real resources or standing army with hostile forces in every corner. To a powerhouse that now captures the imagination of its people at home and abroad. In those early days it was difficult even to pronounce the name, “what did it mean” many would ask me, what was this Buntilan? Did the North East have designs to go the way of the British colonial nostalgic Somali’s of the NW? The Answer was no Puntland, pronounced however one wanted, was to be a Somali state with the clear and simple aim of addressing local issue and taking care of the interest of the NE while searching for a Federal Somali state to unify the nation. Against all odds Puntlands grand conference of the people in Garowe was successful and the electoral college formula was established. The tough and resourceful Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed emerged as the preeminent leader and went to work shaping the new state. Puntland admin brought security, territorial integrity and unity to the states five main regions, all were enveloped in the blue flag and a light flickered for Somalia again. The naysayers, the clannish groups devoid of understanding and those who have never traveled outside their respective dwellings never accepted Puntland. They underestimated it in the south and feared and loathed it in the secessionist NW. The Galkacyu peace agreement signed in 1993 between the USC & SSDF held and gave Puntland a quite southern front through the years of ina Yusuf . Egaal knew all to well he could not face the military prowess or ruthlessness of Ina Yey and never actually commented nor tried to make any noise, the wise old fox no doubt understood from history that the Hargaysa-Burco-Berbera triangle claims for secessionisam was based on an opportunity for self enrichment and was not worth a bloody clan war. Puntland greatest challenge was the mini war between Abdullahi Yusuf and Jama Ali Jama, this was a dark period but again unexpectedly Puntland came through this period more united and stronger. The rebel group of Jama’s own commander Cade Muse Hersi became its next president. Never in Somali history did such an event take place. Puntland success meant that its founder and champion became the President of the Federal republic and that Federalisam an idea coined in Puntland and championed by its people became the adopted power sharing structure for Somalia. Thus one understand the hyper active arguments of those who never supported Puntland, those who ahev apposed it and those who wrongly fear it. However one can see that today Puntland’s cities are booming, its people are more confident and united, its leaders have chosen wisdom over ignorance and greed. What other state or part of Somalia has risen so high for peace, has welcomed as many desperate folks, has held its leaders accountable, as the state of Puntland? While in Hargaysa they have had two dictators we have changed four leaders. While they talk of the trinity we see that that bitter rivals can come together that an opposition chief can become President and a powerful General can go away without fuss. We see an injection of ideas with people ready to criticize. Yes not everyone is happy, but the state is moving on. We know today we can get rid of those who lead us, peacefully without fuss a lesson that all Somali’s should learn from. Thus I know those who hate Puntland are not happy today, but know this the Duke is pleased with his beloved state .

General Duke Posted January 10, 2009 the poor and weak are assisted by the regional government. According to the new leader, the Farole administration will establish an organized and effective Puntland security force that can restore law and order across the vast region in Somalia's northeast. "My priorities will be restoring security, improving public service, developing economic sectors and empowering the free-market economy," He spoke at length about his policy regarding relations with Somalia's Transitional Federal Government (TFG), saying: "We will never allow anyone to violate the federal system." Dr. Farole said.
General Duke Posted January 10, 2009 The election which was a rarity in character in Africa, let alone Somalia, has set an example of how democracy is at work in pockets of Somalia. It was peaceful. The nine contestants were satisfied with the result. The winners were heartily congratulated by the losers. The Puntlanders, who were relieved on the serenity of the election, welcomed the result.
