wind.talker Posted April 20, 2005 Beijing and Washington are fighting for India's heart on the Asian geo-political stage. What's at stake: bilateral trade, energy security, resolution to border dispute that led to Sino-Indian war of '62, military & cultural cooperation, civilian nuclear & space programs. The U.S. uses similiar ideals of democracy and capitalism that are found in both their nations to advance its geo-political agenda(s). China, on the other hand, uses good neighborly relations and historical ties as a way to gain India's favor. All part of China's "peaceful rise" initiative to become a global superpower. Who will win? Who fill fail? For context, its best to remember the prophetic words of Jawahar Nehru, the former Indian leader: "In dealing with America, you have two options: accept the power of the Pentagon and loose your freedom, or accept the power of Hollywood and loose your culture." billy1944 Posted April 20, 2005 I sure hope that China wins India's heart since they are both Asiactic peoples. So it seems it should be a natural. India, though, has been known in the past to do backflips at the whim of the U.S. in order to get a pat on the head like a good puppy. Never mind Union Carbide and Bhopal, where victims and their families were given mere pittance for their losses. India refuses to flex its muscles on the world stage, yet calls itself the world's largest democracy. What's wrong with that picture? A nuclear power that will couragiously fight its brother-nation,Pakistan; yet will not speak out in defense of Palestine or other defenseless people. Will a few dollars and a few jobs supplied by the U.S. cause India to sell its soul to the devil? Can one imagine such a powerful bloc if China and India cooperated fully in commerce, military, and scientific endeavors? They could rule the world, especially the under-developed countries. Another Bandung conference is urgently needed to discuss and act on these measures for the good of the world. I'm done.
