Mogadishu 30, Oct.06 ( Sh.M.Network) Nearly 100 militiamen armed with small arms and accompanied by five battlewagons have defected from warlord col. Abdi Qeybdid, joining the Union of Islamic Courts fighters in Adado, Mudug province central Somalia.

 

Ali Abdulle Ahmed, an Islamic officer, has told Shabelle Radio in Mogadishu that number of militias and 5 battlewagons that broke away from Col. Abdi Qeybdid, one of the defeated warlords, have united with the Islamists who administer most central strategic areas in Somalia.

 

Ali has also pointed out that they are in process of convincing other militiamen loyal to Qeybdid to desert and join the Courts.

 

Abdi Qeydid was the last warlord and member of the defeated anti-terror alliance evicted from the capital Mogadishu early June this year when the Union of Islamic Courts vehemently expanded their powers throughout central and southern parts of the country.

 

Abdi Qeybdid could not be reached for comments over his militias that defected and joined the powerful Islamists.

A-Qeybdiid and some of his clansmen cannot let go old days of ISbaaro dhigasho and keeping hostage of the Somali people.
