GAAROODI Posted July 24, 2009 we have been waiting for this illusive and mysterious oil for the last 5 years now, dont you think its a bit to much talk and not really any substance. Firstly oil companies need insurance, to get insurance they have to go through insurers and the government. Somalia doesnt have a government. Its not stable thus its not insurable because the chances of the insurer paying out is more than 90%. Secondly these oil reserves are not proven, they are suspected the only proven oil reserves in what use to be known as Somalia was actually proven by Exxon mobile and Chevron back in late 80's these were in several blocks in the north of the country in Las anod (which is under Somaliland rule), Saxil which is berbera, Awdal and the offshore reserves along maid,Saxil and Awdal. Even Somaliland can take out its oil until its recognised, so puntland has a long way to go. keep trying though, but ive been in business and the chances are pretty remote. Can you imagine the oil fields of Saudi Arabia with bombs going off? Not really right! I thought so, its un-investable. What these small companies are trying to do is purchase the rights to these sights at a fraction of the price without an insurer. Sign some sort of an artificial agreement with the government and sell these rights on to major companies when it matures, what they don't know is the somali mind were the policy can change tommorrow and a new guy in charge would mean another contract with a rival company. The fact is for 18 years you have been claiming recognition is coming. Puntland oil will be on the world markets before there is such a thing as Somaliland Thats a fact. For a few years PUNTLAND a state part of Somalia a country in deep civil war has managed to convince against all odds to get westerner firms to come and explore its regions, carry out surveys and studies and this has been done in remote regions of Bari that has not been explored for over 20 years and some never before. This is not digging for water old boy or pretending the Queen is ones mother. It’s a gradual process and so far it continues and these firms keep courting the new admin even though Faroole was against them before, they have not blinked and continue as you see today. I hope we dont get recognition because that would be to good for you, i want to own every square inch of Somalia and i know the alshabab and the pirates of puntland would run away when they see the Somaliland tank division charging towards them, they can do what puntland has done surrender and submit. Why only take the resources of Somaliland when you can take the human resource of Somalia and its minirals,ports and resources as your own. Politics is a dirty game, but as machievelli argued it is better to be feared than loved. And by the way if you think that means you could come to Somaliland think again, you would probably get linched there, just got back and the sorts of stuff i witness were halarious.
