Tell me Caamir, isn’t Laasqoray Fishery Factory (Warshada Kaluunka ee Laasqoray, WKL) a public property built by Russians in 1960s under a Soviet development aid program to the Somali Republic? How come it went into the hands of Hodman Trading Company? Are we talking about a different WKL?

No Neyruus, the Muslim brotherhood forces that had occupied the Laas Qorey in 1992-93 had dismantled some sections of the machinery with the intent of commercial cannibalization. The old factory is located close to this new one.

 

This other one was built out of private investment, but it stopped functioning after some political wrangling over the Industry's production and profit-sharing agreement. Now its operaton is soon to be resumed by Hodman Trading

When the power of a State to look after its properties is temporary lost, it is one thing to hear about entrepreneurs scavenging immovable public property for pieces of usable equipment to start operations that bring benefits to locals, but it is another thing when private citizens dismantle major components of government machineries and take them out of the site to jumpstart their own private operations. That is called thievery by any standard and undoubtedly is a criminal offense punishable by all man-made laws and by the Creator’s laws.

 

If an important machinery of WKL were removed from the site and used to build in the fishery factory of Hodman Trading Company, the bearded men in the pictures above are simply new actors of the story of Alibaba and the forty thieves and should not unclothe themselves in public forums. Or is the blatant rape of the Somali Republic state properties taken so lightly that the current TFG can not demand from Cusman Caato to hand over the heavy equipment he stole from Somali people? OR this group in Laasqory would not bother to explain to us when and how they did acquire this factory they claim belongs to them before they put it in the market for sale?

 

When a fully functioning Somali government comes into existing, there will be, no doubt in my mind, questions asked about WKL and if I am around, I will be in the forefront of these who will not shut their mouths until every single piece of the state property is returned back or compensation is collected from the thieves.

 

I have heard that some locals in Balcad took courageous steps in repelling scavengers from raping the Balacad Fabric Factory, Warsgadda Dharka ee Balcad (WDB). The citizens in Balcad should memorize the names of the honorable citizens who voluntarily protected the state property risking their lives. They have to be praised publicly and rewarded for their honorable actions.

Wait! Wait! Neyruus does not have a point and is wrongly wallowing in a preconceived judgment. As a matter of fact, he should have asked more info as to how the new industry is clearly separate from the old industry in its physical investments such as plants, properties, and equipments as well as its monetary investments such as its former shareholders' equity.

 

To build the new industry, it cost over $2.5 million. To say that they stole the old machinery to jumpstart is an affront to these honest business men and women who invested in this project.

 

Around Maydh and Laasqoray sharks are especially targeted, but with

only the valuable fins being landed for export. In Laasqoray where the first tuna canning

factories were built in the mid-1960s, entrepreneurs have established a new fish-canning

factory with all its subsidiaries, which began its production on 19th November 2001.
