To whom can the 'Somali Ethio' bargain with? Before answering, you would do well to research on the areas concerned and their systems of administration.

Some of your statments reveal a general lack of knowledge on Somali affairs. You keep tossing terms such as warlord, ethnicity, regional, Islamist etc - terms i'm sure you've picked up from mis-informed and unrealiable media outlets.

I doubt that you're Somali at all. I hope the administrators at SOL start monitoring and filtering poorly researched and ill-considered information, as they guard against tribal statements.
1. If Mugadishu can bargain with mengistu without any concern for WSLF, what makes you think that the somali ethiopian cannot say enough is enough, you speak for yourself we speak for ourselves.

2. Could you ever bring one post of mine where I wrote or used the word Islamist..you won't find, but you just have to put untruth, as so much untruth is raining from mugadishu these days. Shieks doing propaganda work.

3. Why don't you bring any research you have and debunk that the somali ethiopian rejects and resents now being spoken about as helpless provinces. Everyone rejects this. You didn't dispute ONLF statement. Thats exactly what ONLF is saying and better accept that now. If you are having a hard tme accepting it from Jijiga accept it from ONLF.

4. The only word I use and you don't like is Ethnic or Ethnicity. Its common term now. Of all ethiopian states the Somali and the Afar are the closest to exactly matching the Ethnic state. Its sometimes refered to as ethnic federal system.

Somali-friend, the problem with some poorly educated nomads in this battlefield is that they attack the messenger , not the message? Because of this, I suggest that you take their emotional diatribes leniently.

Lol, Socod Badne. God knows how many times I came close to saying the exact words to the ethio in our midst, but civility holds me back. I am sure if one of us was in their midst, they would have him/her for launch (raw with raw red peppers) :D .

so stop acting ignorant and process this fact.

You need to understand, my friend, and if you are not willing to understand, you need to accept that the somali O-gadenian is big enough to demand what he wants and is strong enough to go and get what he wants himself.

ohh please i do not underestimate the strength of my people in SomaliGalbeed and i know 100% sure if it wasn't for your western Sugar daddy's arming you since the 90's my Somali brothers from O-gaden would have seperated themselves from your kind with ease

My somali Brother in O-gadenia just like Somalia uses the Somali Shilling

SoSh(somali shilling)

the SoSh's stability is reflected by the fact that in parts of neighboring Ethiopia the SoSh is more extensivly used than Ethiopia's own currency (:2003 :144) In fact prior to the last large monetary injection in Somalia in march 1999 and in 2000 the SoSh showed greater stability than the currencies of Ethiopia and Kenya from 1996 february to 1999 the SoSh depreciated against the US$ only 12.14% Between 1996-1999 the Kenyan shilling lost 32.55% against the US$ and the Ethiopian birr depreciated against the dollar 26.58%

simply because..

1 the currency is more stable than the Birr

2 it shows unity with other Somalis in the Horn

process this fact.

You put your house in order, he will put his house in order,

And when will you put your own house in order??

Six Ethiopian soldiers who arrived here opposing the racist policy of the TPLF regime disclosed that at a time when resistance is gaining momentum within the Army, the regime is resorting to increased atrocities by imprisoning members of different ethnic groups.

They noted that many Ethiopian soldiers are defecting to different opposition organizations and fleeing to neighboring countries opposing the brutal and harsh measures the TPLF regime is taking against members of the Army.

EMF) 11 Sep. 2006 -- Son of the renowned Afar spiritual leader Sultan Alimirah, Ambassador Hanfare Alimirah has defect to America making the total number of defectees to Sixty-three, Sources said. Ambassador Hanfare Alimirah was a Charge D’Affaires; Extraordinary & Plenipotentiary in Kuwait. Another diplomat, Mesfin Mideksa, first Secretary in Brussels has reportedly been in Maryland, USA meeting with lawyers to facilitate his asylums.

Dr. Biruk Hailu, Plenipotentiary and Ato Gizachew Bizuayehu, Counselor in Paris have been reportedly left the regime for political asylums in the USA. According to our sources from India, another diplomat, Eyerusalem Bekele, secretary in India has also defected Meles Zenawi's brutal regime.

Sixty-two diplomats and staff members from various Ethiopian Embassies and Consular Offices left their job over the last three months. The total number of diplomats who left the regime after the May 2005 election is more than twice than the number in this list, which is believed to constitute nearly 75% of the diplomatic staff.

Two commission members, who were assigned by Meles Zenawi’s “Inquiry Commission” to investigate the massacres against demonstrators in June and November 2005, have reportedly left for Germany with all documents which expose the regime itself of using excessive force against civilians.

EMF (Washington)- Wife of Kassahun Ayele, TPLF Ambassador to the United States of America has decided not to return back home to protest the gross human right abuses by Meles regime, sources said. Ambassador Kassahun Ayele, whose term finished by the end of this week, has been called by the TPLF authorities to Ethiopia. He has been serving the TPLF regime since 1993. His wife w/o Haregewein Abebe and his two doughters will remain in the United States but the fate of Kassahun Ayele is not yet known.

EMF (Amsterdam)- The TPLF Ambassador to London, Ato Fisseha Adugna, has defected to the USA, a reliable source told EMF.

This confirms the suspicions that something was about to happen since Ato Fisseha had recently sent away his wife, son & daughter to the USA.

Also the Press Officer at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, Ato Wagaye Birhanu, also defected to America two weeks ago. The former Press Officer at the Ethiopian Embassy in London, Ato Efrem Mehrete-Ab has also defected and sought political asylum in the USA.

Ato Fisseha is an important member of the establishment having served 8 years as a councilor in USA Ethiopian embassy prior to five years as ambassador in London.

This is good news for those struggling for the oppressed people of Ethiopia, as it confirms the gradual breakdown of the Meles brutal regime.

Several reports are coming to EMF that confirms the defect of top government officials.

TPLF Diplomats in Holland

Two professional diplomats have also defected earlier from the Netherlands that made the activity of the office very difficult. Source close to the consulate office in The Hague told EMF that the consular is stuffing its office with persons who do not have work permit in the Netherlands, the criteria being only their ethnic identity. Other diplomats in The Hague, including loyal TPLF servant Ato Mohamed Berhan (Zimam, Alex and Nohomi) are sending their families to London. This indicates that the remaining members of the consular are also preparing to defect the Meles regime.

Top Diplomats

Diplomat Workyie Birye, a chief Ethiopian councilor at European Union has defected to USA to protest Meles crackdown on dissidents.

Source told EMF that Mr. Henok Mengistu, chief legal councilor at the Ministry of foreign affairs has defected to the USA.

Ethiopian partnership delegation seeks asylum

Four Ethiopian politicians who were on an official visit to Dublin have applied for asylum rather than return home, it emerged today.

The men were on a six-day visit to launch a partnership between their towns, Werabe and Butajira, and South Dublin County Council.

The council said its officials had gone to meet the men on March 27 when they were due to fly home to Ethiopia.

“Unfortunately they didn’t turn up for that meeting and we subsequently discovered they had applied for asylum in Dublin,” said spokesman Abe Jacob.

The partnership programme was designed to build up the skills and experience of government officials in Ethiopia in delivering services.

According to the Irish Examiner, the four men are from the ruling party in Ethiopia and had been staying at the Clarion Hotel in Dublin.

The Ethiopian Embassy has expressed its embarrassment about the development and has contacted the council to seek its continued support for the partnership.

“The universal view is that we should continue with the project, that the project is bigger than any set of individuals. We’re determined to press ahead with the project,” said Mr Jacob.

Ethiopian officer defects to Germany

Sept 24, 2006 (BERLIN) — Defections in the Ethiopian armed forces continue unabated. The latest to defect is Maj. Tesfaye Yemane, an officer in the Ethiopian army, the opposition Ethiopian Review website reported.

Maj. Tesfaye told Germany radio (Deutsche Welle) the Amharic service Wednesday 20 September that he is seeking political asylum in Germany, where he was taking a six-month course.

Tesfaye, who served in the army for 15 years, said that he decided to defect because the atrocities the Meles regime is currently perpetrating on the people of Ethiopia has bothered his conscience.

Several other officers are taking various steps in opposition to the injustice by the regime against the people, Tesfaye said in his interview with Germany radio.

He added, the people of Ethiopia are currently living in a hell-like condition.

In the past two months alone, two generals, several colonels, and other high-ranking officers have defected, and most of them joined member organizations of the Alliance for Freedom & Democracy.

Brig. Gen. Kemal Geltu defected to Eritrea with with 150 Ethiopian soldiers on 10 August. Since, he was followed by several defections.

Ethiopian officers who joined the OLF

By Staff

Sep 18, 2006, 17:56

Asmara, 18 September 2006 - Two senior Ethiopian Army officers who recently joined the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) abandoning the TPLF regime said that serving the repressive regime is a historical crime.

In an interview with Eritrean Television, Brig. General Hailu Gonfa, who was a senior official in the Ethiopian Defense Ministry and Col. Gemechu Ayana, commander of the 8th Mechanized Force said that the Ethiopian people have gone through untold suffering over the past 15 years and that they have been repeatedly putting forth demands to alter such a state of affairs but to no avail. The two senior army officers went on to say that as their demand fell on deaf ears, they were compelled to raise up arms against the regime and thus join the popular struggle.

Brigadier General Hailu Gonfa

They stressed that the Army being part of the people should serve a popularly elected government and not individuals. The two officers further pointed out that as the majority of members the Ethiopian Army have come to understand this way of thinking, they are being subjected to heinous repression on the part of TPLF cadres.

Stating that the regime is making futile attempts to pit the Ethiopian people against one another on the basis of nationality, ethnicity and regionalism so as to prevent them from fostering unity, Brig. General Hailu Gonfa disclosed that this same divisive policy is being practiced by cadres within the Army who have no sense of patriotism at all.

Colonel Gemechu Ayana

12_Ethiopians_defect_clip_image002.jpg

Recalling the defeat of the TPLF in the 2005 elections, Col. Gemechu Ayana emphasized on his part that serving this illegal clique is a historical crime, and as such it is naive to think that such a brutal regime would change its ways.

In a message they conveyed to the Ethiopian people, the two senior Army officers called on the population to continue their resistance in an intensified manner. They particularly reminded the country’s Armed Forces to direct their weapons against the bloodthirsty regime

One of Ethiopia's most senior judges, Teshale Aberra, has left the country following "continued harassment" from the government, he has told the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6121854.stm

Rising Tensions: Three Generals-two Oromo, one Amhara- purged

Staff Writer

Ethiotribune

November 16, 2006

Finfinne- the government-owned Ethiopian Television last night reported that three generals of the Ethiopian Army, Major General Alemshet Degife (Oromo), Brigadiers Kumera (Oromo) and Asaminew Tsige (Amhara), are suspended from their duties.

Although the announcement was made by the Defense Council, at the Ministry of Defense, the instruction is said to come right from the Prime Minister himself.

Major General Alemshet has been the Chief of the Air force. He was assigned this force after a similar purge in 2001 following the division within the ruling Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the dominant party within the rump EPRDF.

After the defection of other senior military commanders, the Ethiopian Prime Minister is facing strong upheaval from the armed force. Analysts believe that after the defection and dismissal of so many senior officers, maintaining control over the army will be highly problematic.

Before coming to power in 1991, the TPLF manufactured PDOs to give a more multinational image. Lately this ruse is falling apart and the EPRDF, the ruling coalition, is increasingly being reduced to its Tigrean core with the defection, resignation, arrest and disappearance of several Oromo and Amhara dignitaries.

The Oromo and the Amhara make up close to 65% of the Ethiopian army. Although the Tigrean component is disproportionately represented at the high brass, the fighting force is mainly Oromo and Amhara.

The current rounds of purges are likely to intensify rather than dampen tension within the armed forces. An aura of suspicion has already building since the defection of Brigadier General Kamal Galchu, one of the army’s most decorated soldiers. General Galchu was accompanied by Colonel Abebe Garesu along with over 600 soldiers and officers of different ranks. Even though the BBC had reported only 150 and Ethiotribune has been able to confirm through its sources that the actual number was 600. Later they were joined by Brigadier General Hailu Ayana and Colonel Gammachu Ayana.

What is apparent from the purges and defections, both civilian and military, is that people think the EPRDF ship is sinking and want to jump before it runs aground. This is reminiscent and by far worse than the last days of the Dergue regime. With continuing anti-government protests throughout Oromia, tension in the capital and many northern regions, armed confrontation in ******, the standoff with Somalia, and the tension on the border with Eritrea, grave danger hovers over the future of the Ethiopian regime.

Thats the message being sent even from the most unlikely places ONLF. read the statement ONLF issued.

1 the ONLF wishes to affirm that we will not allow our territory to be used as a launching pad for an Ethiopian invasion of Somalia without stiff resistance from our armed forces

Why would they say this..?? aren't they the Somali Ethiopians you have been speaking of and bombarding us with on this forum

weren't they loyal to Ethiopia??

the brand new Ethiopia

see how illogical your statements are?? i was busy with stuff at college the past few weeks but now i have time to adress your non sequitur statements so don't think i won't refute them ...

2 the ONLF wishes to confirm that the people of O-gaden stand in strong solidarity with the people of Somalia to reclaim their sovereignty and achieve a lasting peace free of foreign influence and manipulation.

you don't like it when the O-gadenia issue is put in your face

you come with red herrings and try to divert from the issue presented to you by crying let them speak for themselves

that's sad it shows your not a good debater but simply a strawman

Lets not get into Mugadishu warlords trying to speak on behalf of Puntland and Somaliland trying to speak on behalf of somali O-gadenian

like i said the most corrupt Somali from the South has more right to speak for the Somali in Punt in S-land in O-gadenia than a corrupt Agame from occuppied Finn fine

just like a corrupt Chinese from Beijing has more right to speak for chinese people from other regions than a corrupt Neo-Shogun

...forget that old tiresome game. Its dead. Wether the somali is in 10 countries or one country, first things first. He has to have his rights respected, governing himself, speaking his language and raising the next generation as somali and taking advantage of every opportunity for development.

again your show in your posts how illogical your thinking is and how far away you are from reality on the ground

where do the majority of Somali-O-gadenians get their rights respected in the So-called new Ethiopia??

where are their rights to explore and use their mineral rescources for their own benefit??

where are their rights to have a referendum they have been calling for since 94??

what happend to article 39??

why is Western Somalia one of least developed regions in the Horn??

your full of it and you know it and i know it

Don't take it personal, but everything else is nonesense.

exactly so untill you can come up with facts to prove me wrong that these dedebs in Finne Fine really are helping my people you should restrain yourself from making these ignorant statements.

David_Letterman,

Why you could not quote a single item from a somali ethiopian website, radio, statement....etc.I would have preferred the discussion to be from an ONLF supporters website than a menelik or mengistu supporters websites. The reason is not that I don't like to see what the children of mengistu or menelik are saying, but they are not worth anybody's time. Ethiopians are not going back to the system these past regime nostalgics want.

Why did you have to quote from all that trash of

Websites that are Menelik and Mengistu nostalgic collection. Do you share any of it or you are part of the strange bedfellows that is happening by those who have given up and about to give up.

You are ignoring all the changes that ethiopia and somalia went through in the last decade or more. For many its fundamental change, but you chose to ignore it and went on all the diatribe of those in ethiopia who are fighting in DC or some other western country to restore Menelik and Mengistu.

Weyannie or no Weyannie those who are crying for nostalgia of the old system are dying breed even on the internet.

Do you realize all the websites you quoted are against Federalism in Ethiopia. Some are outright in opposition to ethnics using their languages to educate their children. They just want to have Addis Ababa dictate evrybody and everything.

In ethiopia today, the level of devolution is only at the stage of ethnics. Since there is one somali ethnic in ethiopia, you need to be fair and considerate of all. Hopefully in the coming years it will devolve more to provinces within the ethnic or region.

Somalia will also go through the growing up into federalism. For some that are so used to "lordship" from the capital, its a painful process. Thats probably why Shiek Hassan Tahir called it a system against Islam. Puntland can be used as a good incubator for a federal system. In Ethiopia we didn't have one like that, so it was a very hazardeous road to travel.

Even ONLF accepts the constitution we have. They think its good. Their only problem is ONLF could not win the somali ethiopian's vote and they decided to go for armed struggle.

Are you telling me that its a border conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia? Because if you speak to represent the somali ethiopian from Mugadishu, thats what you are saying. ONLF does not agree with you. You can look at their websites, printed materials, alliances they enter with others..etc.

I think you have a few late nights spent on it.

The same with you also. I repeat. Don't take it personal.

Why you could not quote a single item from a
somali ethiopian website, radio, statement
....etc.

i would but they don't exist..

however i did post info from Somali-O-gadenian and oromo and ethiopian websites

Why did you have to quote from all that trash of

Websites that are Menelik and Mengistu nostalgia.

because Meles is no different from the two Maryams

if you don't like this news because it's from indiginous East African reporters that's 2 bad if you are statisfied with news reported by westerners than i suggest you tell your uncle to allow BBC and other western news outlets back in Ethiopia

untill then you can jump as high you want you can scream as loud as you want

but it won't stop me from refuting your nonsense statements with news reported by east africans reporters

You are ignoring all the changes that ethiopia and somalia went through in the last decade or more.

let's see..

-Is Ethiopia messing in our internal affairs?

yes ( no difference then from Mengistu haile Maryam)

-Has Ethiopia allowed self determination for Somalis in O-gadenia??

no! (no difference then from Sellasie ,Mengistu)

-Has Ethiopia released the nations wich are held as prisoners in the Ethiopia?

no! ( no difference than with the past regimes)

-Has Ethiopia come true to it's article 39 law?

No!

-Mosques are torched down all around Ethiopia

well there you have it no difference at all your still that corrupt neighbouring state that will do everything it can to hurt my people on the orders of it's white masters

Somalia today

-the 15 different warlords that were supported by Ethiopia and it's sugar daddy were chased out

now replaced with an Entity wich has brought stability and peace to my people in the South allthough it still has a few flaws (still nothing compared to the scum you were supporting)

-Somaliland and Puntland both are implementing Shariah-law on the order of their subjects( there goes your theory it will grow up in federal system) hinting at a future union of islamic states

that's something Meles doesn't like he hates everything Islam

my people in S-land and P-land and South will work it out don't worry but you won't have a say in it at all!

For many its fundamental change

state them...

but you chose to ignore it and went on all the diatribe of those in ethiopia who are fighting in DC or some other western country to restore Menelik and Mengistu.

i think you have a problem with H.R 5680 smile.gif

Weyannie or no Weyannie those who are crying for nostalgia of the old system are dying breed even on the internet.

and what benefits did this new regime with this new system have for Ethiopia??

-other then create more clashes between christians and muslims

-create more animosity with neighbouring countries??

-Ignore elections and simply detain 50 000 civilians and kill 199??

you need to snap out of this little bubblegum world your living in and face the facts

Are you telling me that its a border conflict between Somalia and Ethiopia? Because if you speak to represent the somali O-gadenian from Mugadishu, thats what you are saying. ONLF does not agree with you. You can look at their websites, printed materials, alliances they enter with others..etc.

Both because..

1 in the old constitution of the Somali republic the people in O-gadenia were Somali citizens

2 there has never been a referendum that stated my people in O-gadenia didn't want to be part of Somalia ( when we almost occuppied your Capital they were happy and trust me when we are back on our feets they will side unconditionally with us ,don't think your Somali ethiopian garbage loyal to Ethiopia is the reality on the ground)

3 again the people living there are my people they are Somalis i am a Somali so it doesn't matter what my ONLF brothers say i will represent them as is my right as a Somali

Do not talk for my people and state misinformation and then complain when a Somali who does have the right to speak for his people (doesn't matter where they are from) comes with facts

I think you have a few late nights spent on it.

The same with you also. I repeat. Don't take it personal.

I am an ethiopian. I am convinced that federalism is the answer to so many some trivial and some important issues where we waste time, money and worst in some cases life.

Let every region manage its affairs, then its easy to identify the common functions that everybody needs. You list them. Set up a common government to do them and thats called federal government.

I hope that answers your question why I take side.
