Fabregas Posted August 2, 2008 Actually, the origins of the name of Awdal are somewhat different to what MMI is claiming. Good sources have that a Somali gentlrman was sent to Britain during the colonial times, when he returned back home, he got off at Zeila, shed a tear for the beauty of the homeland, and uttered the combined English and Somali words of: "OH-DAL-OH-DAL, how great it is to see you". This man became an influential leader/governor in that part of Somalia and the OH-DAL came into official usage, but was corrupted into Awdal by Somalis.
