DUE TO FIVE REASON GEEDI SHOULD FIRE WARLORDS

You will find remarkable number of Somali people who claim that they

were in favor of including warlords in the Federal Government in the first

place as these warmongers could bring back the peace and stability they deprived

from this unfortunate nation. But one year later after including them in the

government that notion proved to be wrong.

 

Well, since I was not initially one of those supported accommodation of

warlords or “function leaders†as they like to be called, I am not now

surprised that they are striving harder than before to get rid of the

government that they are made of its ministers and parliamentarians

despite that their fair place is behind the bars indeed.

 

Due to the following five reasons, the only viable option the Prime

Minister, Prof. Geedi has now is not anything else but dismissing them

and replacing them with honest, clean-handed ministers who would place the

interest of the nation above their narrow personal interests.

 

1. They are already behaving like hostile opponents so I believe that

their current presence in the cabinet ministers is not making them

to behave differently, rather than blocking appropriate minister who would

have done better noble job for their nation.

 

2. Being members of the government is giving them credibility towards

the nation and giving them reasons to voice their false pretext and

misleading information.

 

3. They are spoiling the government’s reputation by portraying it as

rifted function groups instead of unified harmonious body.

 

4. The threat they pose is always present whether they are in the

government or not and at some point the government will have to deal with

warmongers sooner or later to stabilize the country. So “Why not when they are not

members of the government members.

 

5. Leaving them to be ministers despite their misbehaving will give

them the impression that they are afraid of thus deserve to be treated

differently – (Superhuman)

 

In view of the above the Prime minister should consider kicking these

niggling individuals outside his government and deal with them as

opponents

of the Somali government as they used to be before. – That is their

traditional role.

Unfortunately, Somali warlords, wherever they come from, have demonstrated that they do not deserve the awesome but honorable responsibilities for which they have been mistakenly groomed. Mogadishu based warlords, who have held our nation hostage for nearly 15 years, once again defy the wish of the Somali people and the world.

The warlords who control the militias and who own the roadblocks insist on government relocation to the capital while Mogadishu remains lawless. Recent Mafia-like assassinations of highly valued social, religious and political personalities are yet another reminder of the state of the capital.

 

We had known for a long time that the warlords, particularly those based in Mogadishu, have no interest in restoring law and order since that would run counter to their indulgent self interest. As a well known correspondent recently reported that one warlord collects monthly fees of $170,000 from the airport he controls and more from roadblocks and reported drug peddling. Restoring peace to the city and the country, and rebuilding legitimate government institutions is not attractive enough to wean the warlords from such lucrative, monopolistic and illicit businesses.

 

It appears that the international community has lost sight of appreciating the gravity of the plight of the Somali people by failing to use its powerful political, diplomatic and economic muscles to stop warlords from continuing such a destructive game-playing. This has left the population be a prey to merchants of violence and tyranny as the latter’s game dangerously slides toward an open civil war.
