raadamiir Posted November 14, 2006 Somalia: Puntland sacks police chief as war with the courts looms Tue. November 14, 2006 12:01 pm. (SomaliNet) A decree signed by the president of semi-autonomous Punland State of Somalia Mr. Adde Muse takes power from the state’s police chief. The outgoing chief was sacked of his position because of what Puntland administration said increased lawlessness in Puntland under his command. The new chief who assumed responsibilities already is said to be the best person for the job in times of uncertainty in the region. The Islamic Courts have reached southern parts of Puntland and Galkao city is a war zone now. There was a small skirmish between Puntland and the Islamic Courts in southern part of Mudug Province last week. Both sides are re-enforcing their forces can engage war at any time. Puntland president who is in Galkao now is preparing his government for possible all out war with the Islamic Courts who have sustained unchallenged expansion of their authority throughout southern Somalia. Somalia’s power struggle will be almost over if Puntland crumbles and the courts grab Galkao, the largest city in central Somalia and one of the most prosperous in the country. Che -Guevara Posted November 14, 2006 It is not helpful for the state of Pland politics if everyone whose views diverge from the establishment is given the boot. Diverse opinions play a role in making a thoughful political and military decisions.
General Duke Posted November 14, 2006 ^^^I agree but there has been a difference between the President and Police Chief for a while now.
Naxar Nugaaleed Posted November 14, 2006 instability can not be tolerated now. Perhaps another time, he would be ok as PL police chief but not now. More then ever, president needs be heavy handed in dealing with internal anarchist. getting rid of Yusuf ahmed Khayr and Cabdiwali, for me is a step in the right direction. This would only have adverse effect. Stability can't be sustained by political repression coupled with intimidation and threat violence agianst the very people one is supposedly leading. We need consensus building.
General Duke Posted November 14, 2006 ^^^How is this a violent action, can the President not remove the police chief? Was Bush being violent removing Rumsfeld? You seem to be looking for a lot of excuses, when it comes to the Puntland admin, yet never comment on the actions, the multiple illegal ones of the clan courts? Che -Guevara Posted November 14, 2006 ^^^^^^Saaxib, I was replying to NN with his "heavy handed" comment which sounds like prelude to more severe ramifications for everyone that disagree with Cadde and Co. As for the courts, destablising peaceful region of Somalia no matter how corrupt it's leadership is would be mistake on their part.
Fiqikhayre Posted November 14, 2006 I'm glad to see the departure of Ahmad Yusuf Khayr, who at his reign as Puntland Police commander, was responsible for the deterioration of the general securtiy in Puntland and work of the police! Anyhow, I wish him a good retirenment in London!
