Jacaylbaro Posted September 26, 2010 Marka, Somalia (AHN) - A helicopter believed to have originated from warships stationed off Somalia’s coast on Sunday attacked a house where members of the Al Qaeda-linked insurgent group Al Shabaab were meeting. The helicopter was flying at a low altitude and attached the house in the town of Marka in the Lower Shabelle region of southern Somalia several times, according to residents. The number of casualties is unknown. Reliable sources confirmed the house was completely destroyed, as artillery echoes from the spot could be heard throughout Marka. Members of Al Shabaab are reported to be collecting mobile phones from all reporters in the town and have ordered all call shops to close. Reports said the house was located in the Sheikh Abroone neighborhood, which is very near the coast. Al Shabaab didn’t immediately comment on the attack. No government has claimed responsibility. It is not the first time for such operations to be carried in southern Somalia, which is under Al Shabaab control. In September 2009 Saleh Ali Nabhan, a senior Al Qaeda operative tied to several attacks in East Africa, was killed in a U.S. air strike in the town of Barawe in southern Somalia.
