Jabhad Posted January 9, 2007 ^^May Allah give them strength to defeat the enemies of our religion, aamiin. Senior Pentagon Official Confirms U.S. Attacks On Islamic Courts Union American media is reporting that a U.S. Air Force AC-130 gunship from Djibouti bases attacked last remnants of the Islamic Courts Union (ICU) forces. NBC is reporting that a senior Pentagon official has confirmed the reported attack. The media also reported a high number of dead bodies scattered on the ground as a result of the attack. ICU fighters were last surrounded by invading Ethiopian forces in a small pocket in southern-most tip of Somalia close to the Kenyan border. The besieged ICU fighters unwilling to surrender and the difficulty terrain is believed to have presented stronger than expected resistance to the invading Ethiopian forces with high casualties on both sides. If Monday's reported American attack is true, more of the same will no doubt follow which will eventually remove any last organized pockets of resistance in a matter of weeks if not days. Ethiopian air force attacks on the ICU militias in the area may not have been effective and this may have probably prompted the U.S. to act. The more sophisticated American air force planes are capable of launching night time attacks.
Castro Posted January 9, 2007 LSK, saaxib this is turning out to be a simple PR operation for domestic US consumption before the big troop surge announcement on Wednesday. Heck, the entire Ethiopian invasion may have been timed for this. Think about it. Wall to wall coverage in world news of "Islamists", "Al-Qaeda", "extremists", etc... The US couldn't buy this kind of publicity. It's simply priceless. Now, the public is back into the "war on terror" mood. I wouldn't be surprised if they razed an entire village of hundreds just to get a couple of people.

xiinfaniin Posted January 9, 2007 Castro et al, there could be a lot of casualties! The chill of death and despair is evident everywhere in the south. What’s to come is going to be even worse for Somalia. America’s brutal campaign defeated Courts men but it also succeeded to do away with the temporary return of law and order in Mogadishu! It paved the way for the return of the warlords. It deepened Somalia’s tribal mistrusts! It will hunt us for a long time to come! Today news wires reported old man’s arrival to the Villa Somalia. But it means very little given security realities on the ground. A genuine and stable Somalia can never be built on the graveyard of Muslim shabaabs, and a regime supported by Somalia’s historic foe will never win legitimacy from the majority of Somali people, I say. These premature celebrations will end abruptly when the reality kicks in. Those whom some celebrate as inherent shrewd and superb political practitioners will be shown to be mere puppets with no political agenda, and with a deep yearning for tribal vengeance! Allow u naxariiso..

Castro Posted January 9, 2007 Amiin Xiinow. The US involvement is deliberately being made public for a reason. The Ethiopians, also, have been fighting in the Ras Kamboni area for almost two weeks now and sustaining heavy casualties. Why not bring the the US warplanes. Kill some innocent people and claim to have killed terrorists. Give the Ethiopians the edge they've been getting throughout this war. Villa Somalia might end up becoming the old man's grave for we're all walking towards our own graves.
