Somalia: Col. Barre Hirale recruits more militias to take back Kismayu Aweys Osman Yusuf Mogadishu 14, Oct.06 ( Sh.M.Network) Fresh militias in favor of warlord Barre Hirale have reached Bar-dhere where the Somali defense minister, who deserted Kismayu after the Islamic Courts seized it, is based. The militias are reportedly from different locations in Gedo province, southern Somalia to participate in Barre Hirale’s war campaign endeavor to recapture Kismayu. Consecutive meetings between officers in support of the Somali defense minister Barre Hirale and local businesspeople had been occurring in Bar-dhere as the residential militias hijacked five huge pickup trucks. The motive of the meetings is to convince merchants to back up local militias financially. Mohammed Ali Adan, a local businessperson, told Shabelle Radio in Mogadishu that the conclusion of their conference was productive. “We have come to decision of handing over security elements in Bar-dhere to Barre [the Somali defense minister] and that he becomes in charge of the tax collectionsâ€, Adan said. Bar-dhere business people appealed to the minister to give the order to free the hijacked trucks. Ever since Somalia’s Islamic Courts overpowered the minister, he left for Gedo region where he hailed from to reorganize his militias and take back his city of Kismayu. Somalia’s Islamic Courts had taken full control of central and southern Somalia, including the capital.
