Al Shabaab behead two sheikhs

MOGADISHU (Reuters) - Somalia's hardline al Shabaab insurgents have beheaded two sheikhs from a rival Islamist movement, a spokesman for the Ahlu Sunna Waljamaca group said on Friday.

The killings happened on Thursday, the same day al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden urged Somalis in an audio tape to topple the new president of the lawless Horn of Africa nation.

Al Shabaab, which Washington accuses of having close ties to al Qaeda, has been battling rival Islamists from the Ahlu Sunna Waljamaca movement for control of central regions.

An Ahlu Sunna spokesman said the two religious leaders had been injured by stray bullets during the clashes. He said they were later captured by al Shabaab gunmen as they were being driven to hospital in the capital.

"Elders told al Shabaab that the sheikhs were not fighters, but they turned a deaf ear and beheaded them," Sheikh Abdullahi Sheikh Abu Yusuf, the spokesman, told Reuters.

Yusuf said the killings took place in Balad town, 30 km (19 miles) north of Mogadishu. He also accused al Shabaab militants of decapitating three elderly women last weekend. Al Shabaab officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

On Thursday, bin Laden urged Somalis to overthrow their new president, Sheikh Sharif Ahmed, a moderate Islamist elected this year in the 15th attempt to form a central government.

But experts say bin Laden's message is unlikely to be heeded: al Qaeda's violent brand of militancy repels ordinary people and real hope now exists among many Somalis that Ahmed can end 18 years of chaos. [iD:nLJ970165]

Violence in Somalia has killed more than 16,000 civilians since the start of 2007, uprooted more than a million and left about a third of the population depending on food aid.

In a statement posted on their website, www.kataaib.infor, on Friday, al Shabaab welcomed bin Laden's support and again denounced Ahmed as the leader of a "non-Muslim" government.

"May Allah bless and protect Sheikh Osama," it said. (Writing by Daniel Wallis; Editing by Katie Nguyen).

Alshabab is a very obscure group.

They recruit young men via 2 methods:

- Money

- False promises of Paradise.

According to inside-information, they pay their troops monthly, the higher u are the higher your pay. A guy who was inside the group was paid 20 dollars a day!

The natural question which arises is:

- Where do they get their money from?

I would not be surprised if they were financed by wealthy arabs from the Gulf who have Jihadi Islamist dreams but are too coward to wreck havoc in their own lands.

Also, in our eyes Alshabab paying youngsters 100-600 $ a month from money they receive from shady sources in the Middle East is not different then what Qanyare and those from the socalled ''Counter-terror Alliance'' did when they received money from shady sources (CIA, Ethiopia or who not). In our eyes, they are the same and both warlord sides should be opposed by society.

Both are proxy entities that are not in the interest of Somalia.

War dadku aqli daranaa, what do you mean where do they get the money? they control half of all the ports in southern somalia.

Also, the two "sheikhs" where militiamen that were fighting this group in the central regions according to shabaab website they where shot.

Hamza,

What ports?

Merca? Merca never made that much money during 1991-2006.

Kismaanyo? Kismanyo port was good for exporting charcoal, and even JVA's engagement in that illegal trade did not produce as much money as financing their troops 100-600$ a month.

Again, Alshabab is an obscure group, and their funding by Wealthy Arabs from Middle East is the same as the funding of the infamous warlords from Mogadishu by Western organizations (CIA etc).

All of this according to "inside information" and you just happen to have inside info or rumors that you are trying to use to put down this group. Do you really think that they have more money then UDS who were being supported by Eritrea and much middle eastern money was being sent through them? Do you really think they have more money than the government (which actually doesn't govern even one city) that is being supported by the WEst? I think that they are probably underfunded and at the same time they have to try to look out for those men who could be working but have chosen to resist the foreign influence. Alshabab is an obscure group and their funding is definately NOT the same as the funding of the infamous warlords from Xamar by the West.

''Alshabab is an obscure group and their funding is definately NOT the same as the funding of the infamous warlords from Xamar by the West. ''

The warlords sides (religious and clannist) were both obscure, had foreign funding, foreign backing and were ruthless.

They both operate similar, one misused and abused clan retorics to advance the own political ambitions, the other misused and abused religious retorics to advance the own political ambtions.

First of all i do see a difference in the amount of support that was sent in regards to both finances and people.

Second, i definately see a difference between those who are spreading corruption in the land and supporting the gaalo and those who are defending the Muslims and protecting and establishing Islam.

Actions such as fighting, praying, slaughtering, making intercourse, and so on can be done by two people and in one case it could be allowed and receiving good deeds while the other could be sin above sin.

There is definately a big difference between the Mujahideen and the ones fighting in ignorance.

First, both groups have little support from society and rely on a private militia funded by foreign money and which is composed of brainwashed child soldiers. No difference between both sides.

Second, both groups are spreading their corruption. One corrupted clan, and the other is corrupting the religion by abusing it for own personal ambitions. Only their hardcore supporters would sugarcoat their political ambitions into holy ideals.

Both sides should be denounced and fought by society. Insha allah, the fitnah caused by both sides will come to an end.

One group is fighting to kick out the foreigners and live solely under the law of Allah. The other group is fighting for tribal and worldly gains. You still don't see a difference. Allah says that fighting has been prescribed for us even though we may dislike it.

This is like a man who met a good sister and took care of the mahr and the agreement and then had relations with her. Vs. a men a met a women and had illegal relations with her. In both cases they are having relations but the first one is allowed and even rewarding while the second is evil.

Those youth are the heros of Somalia who protected and defended the Somali Muslim people and aren't willing to let people who have been relaxing and enjoying in the world's expensive hotels come and steal the blood that was spilt over the past two years. They aren't willing to let all of the effort be stolen by those who are looking to please the Gaalo at the expense of pleasing the Creator.

ps Just because you don't agree with those who have chosen that path and are giving their lives in that path, that doesn't mean that they are brainwashed. Instead of trying to attack them like that it may be better just to state where their opinions are incorrect.
