General Duke Posted July 8, 2007 During the Occupation (Sept. 1995 - June 1999) Baidoa, the headquarter of Bay region, was occupied on Sept 17, 1995 just about six months after the declaration of the autonomous Riverine State. In those six months, Bay region has made a tremendous social and economic recovery. Baidoa was a focal point of the country's catastrophic famine in 1992. Baidoa represented Somalia's effort to scratch back to normalcy. Its market offered a range of foods and clothing, even simple appliances and electronic goods. It is one of the few areas in the country where several clans lived together in relative peace. As the country's agricultural center, it serves an area that grows 80 percent of Somalia's staple food (sorghum). After Aideed invaded the town, thousands of families fled. Aid agencies, which had an estimated $300,000 in equipment looted by Aideed's militia, also left. And, perhaps most important, trucks have had difficulty getting out of Baidoa to take food to other parts of Somalia. Aideed's invasion represented a step back to the days in 1992 and 1993 when clans took over areas where they historically had not been present. The takeover of Baidoa endangered the food supplies throughout Somalia. Food shortages have once again become a concern in Somalia, because 1995 sorghum harvest of 71,000 metric tons fell in hands of Aideed. After the occupation however, Aideed's militia set a rudimentary colonial type presence in the region. The rest of the Inter-riverine particularly, the Riverine and the Coastal regions were already occupied since 1991. Aideed's militia introduced into the region all forms of colonial policies. They are not taking only people and products, but also confiscate properties and extort ransom from kidnapping. The Riverine regions have been suffering from forced labour since 1991. Baidoa jails are full of detainees waiting to be freed with ransom money. On January 16, 1996 Huddur the capital city of Bakool region was invaded. In the same week Tiyeglow (an important trade center) fall also in the hands of Aideed's militia. Thus the occupation of the inter-riverine regions was completed. August 1, 1996 his son Hussein took over and continued the infamous policies on the region. September 21-25, 1996 Aideed's militia led by Mohamed Jumale Farah burned down the villages of Alyow Mumin, Manas, Goofgaduud and many other hamlets. They killed hundred of innocent people destroyed farms, food storages and raped women. In Alyow Mumin and its environs, they burned 2000 houses and raped more than ten women- including an underage girl who died while she was being raped. 1 October 1997 the forces of Hussein Mohamed Aideed massacred 260 Rahanwein civilians and 20 villages torched. February 5, 1998 Hussein Mohamed Aidid, has pledged to abide by the agreement to withdraw his troops from the southern town of Baidoa on schedule but later failed to do so. February 23, 1999 Mass killings took place Husein Aydid's militia killed dozens of civilians in and around the south-central town of Baidoa. The civilians had been rounded up in Baidoa and the nearby village of Daynuunay before being shot. 23 people were killed on 21 February 1999 and 17 on 22 February 1999. As relations deteriorated between Eritrea and Ethiopia, Eritrea sought to distract attention from the disputed border areas, Eritrea backed Oromo fighters recruitment by Hussein Aideed, a major critic of the Sodere agreement. In February 1999 Aideed returned from a visit to Asmara with three planeloads of weapons and some 1,500 Oromo fighters to join hundreds of other Oromos trained earlier at Qoryoley in southern Somalia to consolidate their grip over the fertile land of Digil & Mirifle. source
Emperor Posted July 8, 2007 ^Thanks brother for the contribution, the same groups that commited this crimes and starved generations of young Somalis are out there trying to fight and destroy any form of governance, sadly and ironicly in the name of "Insurgency", "Clan" and "Somali resistance". MASSACRE OF UNARMED CIVILIANS IN GOBWEIN "With great sadness we would like to inform your and the International communities that on 16th January,1999 at 1700 hours innocent unarmed civilians among them a child and an elderly have been massacred in the village of Gobwein about 15 km North of kismayo. This cruel acts have been perpetrated by the SNF forces of General Ahmed Warsame and USC militias allied with him. The names of the victims are as follows: 1. Dr Cadirisaaq Xersi Dheere 55 yrs 2. Dr. Cabdirahmaan Maxamed Ciise 43 yrs 3. Nabadoon Yusuf Xasan Baadari 80 yrs 4. Mr. Cabdinuur Muuse 33 yrs 5. Mr. Axmed Xiireey Kulan 20 yrs 6. Mr Sanweyne Saalax Gamuure 30 yrs 7. Mr.Cabdirisaaq Jiis Jumbur 11 yrs 8. Mr.Maxamud Macalin 45 yrs 9. Mr.Jaamac Mahdi 40 yrs Ahmed Askar 32 yrs was among three wounded who survived the massacre and is present at the moment in Kismayo. We hereby condemn SNF and USC forces for these crimes against humanity. There are about 50 POWs from SNF and USC militias held in Kismayo which are treated according to Internationally recognized norms. Ahmed Warsame, and Col. Barre Hirale, and both have records of murdering, raping and looting civilians. We appeal to the International organizations specially the Red Cross and other human rights organizations to check and investigate these acts of massacre and also check the condition of the POWs in Kismayo. Fabregas Posted July 8, 2007 @Emperor, all condemn what happened during those days, it was a sad time in our history. But bear in mind the killers, warlords and the men who committed a slow genocide against the Somali people for the past sixteen years, be they Qeybdiid, Dheere etc are all employed by the entity known as the T.F.G. Furthermore, the other entity they brought with them, namely Ethiopia is responsible for a genocide against Somali people. Lastly, she( Ethiopia government) was responsible(PARTLY) for the arming of these militias U.S.C, S.S.D.F, R.R.A and S.N.M.
Emperor Posted July 8, 2007 ^This was not a slow genocide brother, it was catastrophic, immediate fast genocide and out of control, the rate of 200 deaths a day most of them young kids... I agree with you on some points, condeming all the bad that happened in Somalia.
Gabbal Posted July 8, 2007 There is a cause and effect for everything, yes the SNF had a hand in the starvation by burning food crops however was it done without provocation or as a response to a provocation? Local R--------n militia at the time also committed atrocities against the regime's forces that were moving back and forth through the region Source 1991-1993 was a dog eat dog world, you were lucky if you were left alone in peace even as a neutral party. Deliberately acting against another group was to have the other group respond as forcefully as they could. It was period where people were fighting for survival. This is a well known fact and even so the SNF never occupied Baydhabo nor looted it. While no one can agree with the burning of the crops, what caused them to do it is understandable and anyone who chooses not to see it is their business. But that was all in that time of hell. What is surprising is how those people of Bay and Bakool origin are treated today, 2007, in Puntland where they have never fought in nor fought against. It is Puntland where the most gross violations against human rights has been taking place for a decade now. Who practices violations even other Somalis did not practice in the worst periods of the civil war, even those whom it affected the most? Who is it that profits out of cruelty? Of tying together innocent and despaired people's hands and dumping them in the ocean for a few Shilling Somali's worth? Unprovoked and unwarranted cruelty unseen in the face of this earth simply because of greed and profiting off of the few pensions of already destitute people? Who is it that tortures innocent and unarmed travelers in their regions? People who fight know the value of life, being saved at every turn and never fighting for survival seems to have made some groups forget the value of life. Rag u dhashay gobolka Bay oo tacadiyo Bani'aadanimada ka baxsan loogu geystay gobolka deegaano ka tirsab Gobolka Mudug Khamiis, 18 May 2006 (HOL): Wararka naga soo gaaraya magaalada Gaalkacyo ee xarunta gobolka Mudug ayaa sheegaya in degmada Bacaad weyn oo qiyaastii dhanka waqooyi kaga aadan Magalada Gaalkacyo 35 KM uu ka dhacay fal aad xun oo lagula kacay dhalinyaro ganacsato ah oo dhamaantod ka soo jeeda gobolka Bay. Dhalinaradan oo tiradoodu gaarayso ilaa 7 dhalinyaro ah ayaa lagu eedeeyey inay geesteen fal tuuganimo iyo xatooyo ah oo aysan geysan sida ay xaqiijiyeen dad goob joogayaal ah oo ku sugan halkaasi. Ragaani dhalinyarada ah ayaa loo geystay jir-dil iyadoo gacmaha iyo lugahaba laga jajabiyey, iyadoo kadibna sida ay sheegeen dhalinyarada qudhooda caag la dhalaaliyey dusha looga shubay. Sidoo kalena waxaa la sheegay in nimankani xiniinyaha laga bixiyey [inaa lilaahi waa inaa ilahay raajicuun]... Source And this is 2007 Somalis, not 1991 in the heat of the civil war. Hehe N/AA what a funny comeback, stunning performance, this is how you want to be apologetic about the half million lossess of humans mostly kids in which a major role was played by the SNF militia. In Puntland the case is a whole different nevertheless it's sad to see it hapening, the people of Bay and Bakool happily live in Bosaaso and other major towns of Puntland, some of these people are the ones that are trying to take the dangerious boats. Puntland authorities did their best to deal with the sort of business, it's not a motive to kill people because of their clan, it's a risky business in which the clients are happy to take the risky, it happens in all corners of the world, the worst of it happens in the shores of Libya, Tunisia, Moroco and Italy. Sad you want to level and compare this to what the sick SNF militia and USC notorious gangs did to the people of Bay, Bakool and Shabellaha... sad to have come this, of all people, from N/AA... Jacaylbaro Posted July 8, 2007 you want the truth ?? Waxba ha isu kay kala saarina, hebel baa sameeyay iyo hebel baa ka dambeeyay ,,, anyway it was done by SOMALIS living in SOMALIA. That is your problem and will be always your problem my dear friends ,,, i don't give a damn if it is USC, NSC, DSA, SSW, FFT, or BTJXKH ,,,, they are all somalis and in SOMALIA. They did it in Somaliland and destroyed cities, they were chased and once they step foot on Somalia that is what they have done to the poor civilians. Emperor Posted July 8, 2007 ^If they are Somali and Somali is Somali, then why some Somali people like you sell out the seccession idea, we are all Somali right, we are all the same right, we are all equal the criminal and the innocent all Somali and same.. right? Very ironic this comes from a seccessionist supporter... what is the difference anway, aren't we all the same...

Outch, brother Horn means well however he forgets that what happened in Baidoa by the SNF continues today in places like Bardheere and other parts of Gedo by the same clan militias under Hiiraale. Are the majority clans in Bardheere not the same clan that resides in Baidoa?
