Though, like you, I doubt any farms were burnt down by the troops--I think if they did, that it would make both military and strategic sense. firstly, it would make military sense during the operation against the terrorists in Galgala, because the trees could have provided cover for the miscreants and thus warrant their destruction. Secondly, since we all knew that ATAM personally owned a date palm plantation, from a strategic point of view, I think it makes perfect sense to deny him an opportunity to raise resources, however meager they maybe from such a grove.
