Somaliland: NEC delegation jets off for UK

 

HARGEISA (SomalilandPress) — The spokesperson for the National Electoral Commission (NEC), Ahmed Mohamed Hirsi “Geele” has informed SomalilandPress that Ali-Khader Hassan Osman, the vice chairman of the NEC left for the United Kingdom on Friday May 21, 2010.

 

The purpose of his visit to the United Kingdom is to review the voting cards that will be used in the Presidential election being held in Somaliland on the 26th of June, 2010.

 

Mr Ahmed stated: “The NEC delegation departed yesterday for England in order to meet with the company contracted to provide the voting cards. Their intention is to directly oversee the printing process and to make sure the quality of their work is up to standard and that the voting cards cannot be reproduced or copied. On confirming this, the delegation will return to Somaliland with the voting cards in their possession.”

 

The spokesperson also mentioned that the NEC has divided themselves into two groups. One responsible for the safe retrieval of the voting cards, and the other group responsible for the handing out of the voter ID cards.

 

The delegation that went to the UK consists of Ali Khader Hassan Osman, Abdirahman Ismail Dehood (One of seven members of the NEC board), Mr. Khader (the legal advisor to the NEC).

 

The spokesperson also asked SomalilandPress to congratulate all of the citizens of Somaliland for taking part peacefully in the voter registration process and also asked them to do the same on the actual election date.
