The new Court was declared this week in Las Anod, capital of Sool region, following days of consultations and meetings between the Bah-Hararsame sub-clan that involved traditional chiefs, sheikhs, intellectuals and members of civil society. One delegate confidentially told Garowe Online that, “in the end, the sub-clan [bah-Hararsame] voted to make Shariah [islamic] law as the law of the land.” This is not the first time an Islamic court has been declared in Las Anod. In August, members of another local sub-clan declared an Islamic court, prompting a response from Puntland police who arrested the organizers. Last week, the spokesman for an Islamic court in Galkayo was detained by police sometime after his radio interview aired on the BBC Somali Service. General Duke Posted November 12, 2006 Sakhar, no one is trying to destroy the state. Dont get carried away with what Mogadishu want and what Puntland elders, religious folks want. The adoption of Shariah law, should be welcomed and it will strengthen the state as a whole. No need for violence or supression of the people. The admin will have to adapt or become extinct. In the areas of corruption, equality and Qad abuse, the Shariah law would bring great benefits. However this will not mean Puntland comes under the Mogadishu courts..
