Ibtisam Posted June 26, 2007 Of course we have not made it but the debate looks interesting for anyone in london who wishs to attend, I cannot see them telling you anything you did not already know, but hey! For as long as we can remember ‘Women’s Lib’, Feminism, ‘Girl Power’, along with a whole range of other terminology has described a struggle women have pursued across the globe for many decades. Hence women would like to believe that today, living in liberal, free societies in the 21st century they have finally reached the point where they can raise their voices and say, ‘yes, we’ve made it!’ The bastion of such achievement is portrayed as being in the Western democracies. However, the discussion continues.... In an era where claims are always made about women having rights and being equal, whisperings of discrimination and exploitation still muster. In a heightened political climate where images of the ‘Muslim woman’ and the ‘Western woman’ are fuelled to the other, Women’s Association of Professionals (WAP)hopes to bring women together from all backgrounds to a unique forum to discuss this very pertinent issue. We wish to open the doors to honest, open and sincere debate to explore the real mystery of the progression and status of women across the globe. GUEST PANELISTS INCLUDE Arzu Merali Islamic Human Rights Commission. Edwina Currie Former Conservative MP, Broadcaster, Writer. Rachel Briggs Head of Demos Think tank. Nazreen Nawaz Women's Media Representative, Hizb ut Tahrir Britain. 29th June 2007 @ 6.00pm Toynbee Hall, 28 commerical Street, London E1 6LS
Valenteenah. Posted June 26, 2007 Ah, I remember when I used to go to these types of talks and seminars. Always left me disappointed. Can't be bothered these days. If you go, do report back.
