Nin-Yaaban Posted July 31, 2003 Staying home? Yea, that sounds a better alternative, to going out places on your own.
LuCkY Posted July 31, 2003 ^^^^^   Staying home? U gotta be kidding me. FYI: Crime doesnt have a specific place. There are hundreds of women and men that are attacked in their home. Besides we(women) have our own lives and can do as we please-meaning we dont need a man to escort us to every place that we go.The only thing that we should do is in aan Allah Talasarano(excuse my written somali). Nin-Yaaban Posted July 31, 2003 Yea, but the percentage is much higher for women than its for men.
LuCkY Posted July 31, 2003 And you wonder why that is! Men are psychos(i dont mean all of them)that is why they attack women. They should be put to a mental institution-that way people are safer-no pun intended.

Batuulo Posted August 1, 2003 here's more tips ... first off, you should CONTROL the weapon...before you ever try disarming it. Also, keep in mind that just because someone's using a knife...they have plenty of other weapons at their disposal...if you forget that....it'd certainly be bad for you. Knives are tricky, they're extremely fast, close quarter weapons...they're tricky to deal with. If you have the option of retreating...do so. If you do not, here's a couple ideas for you.... 1) don't try to strike the weapon or do some silly karate style block on it...you'll only get cut when he draws the weapon back again. Knives cut both ways, always remember that. 2) if you can, lock the weapon to your body (preferably to the hip) and don't let it slack at all from there. you can maintain a level of control pertaining to the knife (and the arm it's connected to) that way. 3) attack places that are beneficial to your survival (i.e. anything that will effectively disable and/or kill the attacker if neccescary.) 4) don't screw around with trying to do crescent kicks or any of that absolute nonsense when there's a bladed weapon in play...CONTROL the weapon...evade, contain, counterattack. anything else will likely get you hurt or killed. 5) pick up and use anything that will gain you distance -bar stool, pool cue, anything you can throw (an ashtray, rock, brick, whatever....etc etc etc.) 6) remember, when you're facing a knife, you're also fighting for your life....defend it by any means neccescary to ensure your survival. i hope some of that helps.

Gediid Posted August 1, 2003 Batuulo why paint a scenerio thats as scary as hell.As a man I wish and pray that Allah hides all that from me and of course try for the life in me not to find myself in areas of high crime.I don't go about reading Self defense BS knowing that if this worst sh!t happens I will either run for my life or cry like a little girl and definately not go up against a knife. Ilaahay hay naga qabto. Batuulo....that is scary sis. Nin Yaaban, It is not just women that are attacked, u kno. I read a newspaper article not too long ago which claimed men (especially young men) were 4 times more likely to get attacked in London than young women. I don't know if its' the same in the States or not...but apparently, men get involved in fights more easily, they are not careful or aware of their surroundings when they are out (especially late at night) and most importantly they are too over confident. So, it is important for both sexes to learn some form of defence. Insha'Allah, ur skills will never be tested, but whether it proves useful or useless, you'll at least have more confidence. It is also a good way of staying fit....a good thing whichever way you look at it. Maybe you should try it b4 u knock it. I'll try to find that article now.
