President Rayale meets with Norwegian Oil experts

Hargeisa(QARAN)-The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Mudane Dahir Rayale Kahin recently received a delegation from the various Norwegian Oil exploration companies in Hargeisa.

 

The delegation from the Norway consist of experts in Oil and Natural Gas exploration, and some of these companies are already conducting surveys in Somaliland.

 

In his remarks to the delegation, President Rayale expressed the appreciation of the government and the people of Somaliland for the current work undertaken by these Norwegian companies.

 

The Somaliland ministry of Water and Natural Resources has been conducting primarily discussion with these Norwegian Oil and Gas companies.

 

Earlier in the day, President Rayale also received a delegation from the "SOS" Agency which currently runs several projects in Sheekh, Burco and Hargeisa, which consist of schools, health centres and low income families support services. It is anticipated that "SOS" will begin a new project in Borama.

 

President Rayale thanked the "SOS" for their sterling work in Somaliland, and requested that "SOS" include the reconstruction and refurbishment of the Technical School in Burco.

JB unfortunately I live in Norway and have been living here the last 23 years.

I know this countrys oil industry like the back of my hand.

 

After the fusion between Statoil and Hydro , Norway doesn't have " several oil companies " as the article is bluffing to introduce.

both Statoil and Hydro are part governmental and because of Norways weak stand of view towards Somaliland I can promise they would never invest in Somaliland oilblocks.

 

And about the 2D scanning of our coast apprantly done by the TGS NOPEC ( another norwegian company asa ) I wonder why they removed Somaliland from their map of special events and news? could it be because our useless minister of minerals have screwed this deal as well.

 

How about the cement factory and that german company and the " famous " brick laying of future by our President.

 

I am a very patient person.

But I cannot stand lies and bluff when its presented to dadweynahaa as " progress "

UDUB has a serious problem towards our businessmen both foreign potential partnes and our own like Indha Dheero , Dahabshiil and many more. How come Indha Dheero or another major Burco based company was not allowed to import gas by themselv but have to rely on that stooge contract by Egal and Total to last for 50 years.

Why is DahabShiil not allowed to open a bank in Hargeisa.

 

UDUBS biggest obstacle is that the party is so damn business unfriendly

Hargeysa, Somaliland, March 4, 2006 – The Somaliland Times can disclose that the Somaliland minister of Minerals and Water, Qassim Sheikh Yusuf has recently awarded an oil exploration and drilling concession to an Indian businessman by the name of Sood.

The deal which took place last month has so far been kept secret from other government officials with the exception of president Rayale and minister of Planning Ahmed Haji Dahir.

 

According to reliable sources within the ministry of Minerals and Water, a production sharing agreement signed with Mr. Sood gives the later rights to drill for oil in the highly promising block 32, which previously belonged to Chevron. The block is located in the northwesterly part of Somaliland’s long Red Sea coast.

 

Mr. Sood who until recently ran his own construction firm – Motherland Homes – is reported to have no previous experience in oil drilling. However after he was introduced to Mr. Rayale through a Somaliland businessman a few months ago, to close friendship soon developed between Mr. Sood and the Somaliland president.

 

The relationship paid off with the Indian businessman walking away with an agreement that has strangely enough been concluded without a signature bonus being paid to the public treasury.

 

It is not the first time that senior Somaliland government officials have been involved in dubious agreements with foreigners posing as potential investors.

 

In 2003, Mr. Rayale was deceived by a Norwegian called Magne Andreas Meier who passed himself as an executive of a leading European oil company known as “Inverse International”. Meier was arrested on last August in Oslo to stand trial for swindling Norwegian citizens of money.

 

It was only last month when the government announced that it was holding discussions with a group of foreign investment companies with the aim of establishing joint venture enterprises worth billions of dollars. Later the visitors turned out to be a group of mainly Sri Lankan small traders who were encouraged to come to Somaliland by one of their countrymen who already had established himself in Hargeysa as a dealer in second hand cars and gemstones.

 

However among all the ministries, the ministry of Minerals and Water has gained an extra notoriety for signing oil agreements in secrecy and without scrutinizing the credentials of its would be partners.

 

For instance an oil agreement was signed last year with a company called Enex. Only the president and his minister of Minerals and Water were involved in the negotiations that led to the deal.

 

Another controversial agreement gave a Somaliland born businessman who live in Europe the rights to Hargeysa block 26. Non of these transactions were reported to the council of ministers let alone the parliament.

 

Another oil exploration company with the name of Rova Energy that was given a concession to drill at east of Berbera several years ago hasn’t been heard of since.

^^Wishful thinking or should I say wishful translation. Huh? A misleading translation. I'm not into Somali politics but would love to elaborate what the norwegian financial paper wrote.

 

The article only mentions Asante's (a newly formed company, which is NOT worth billions as the reporter claims) plans of searching oil in East Africa. No mentioning of a country at all. But it turns out that East Africa is actually in Somalia or rettere sagt i Somaliland . (Aner ugler i mosen jeg).
