AYOUB Posted October 9, 2008 Germany frees 2 ethnic Somalis arrested on plane The Associated Press Published: October 7, 2008 BERLIN: Two ethnic Somali terrorism suspects who were arrested aboard a plane at Cologne-Bonn airport last month were released Tuesday because of a lack of evidence, prosecutors said. Bonn prosecutors said in a statement, however, that the investigation would continue because the two were still suspected of "having conspired to commit a major crime." The suspects — a 23-year-old Somali and a 24-year-old German born in Somalia — were pulled off a KLM flight at Cologne-Bonn airport as the plane prepared to depart for Amsterdam, Netherlands, on Sept. 26. Authorities said at the time that a suicide note was found in which the suspects allegedly proclaimed their desire to fight in a holy war and die in a terrorist attack, but that it did not appear they planned to hijack the plane. KLM said the two men, who lived near Cologne, were booked to fly to Uganda from Amsterdam. Prosecutors have said that no weapons, ammunition or other dangerous objects were found in searches of the men's apartments, but asserted on the day after the arrests that there was reason to believe they planned an attack "in the near future." Coloow Posted October 10, 2008 Without knowing whether these guys are guilty or not, I would say that a common practice used by European countries is fear tactics. A few months ago the Norwegian secret services and their swedish counterparts announced that they have arrested 6 "assumed" terrorists in a joint operation. These terrorists were of somali orging. This was headline news in Europe. They were later acquited. The German police did the same as regards these guys. And when these cases come to the courts there is no sufficient ground for prosecutions. Two conclusions; a) The secret service agents are not doing their jobs properly; there is a justified fear concerning terrorists but the real (terrorists) are no where to be seen. In their absence the secret services need to feed the "scared" population with news about terrorists operating from their backyard to get legitimacy. b) The large numbers of somalis in western countries (not sufficiently) integrated and the failed nation pose a threat- and if there are terrorists in the midst of european cities then somalis make a good case according to this reasoning. The police would have arrested these guys and the ones in Oslo and Stockholm without feeding the media about "suspected" terrorists being arrested. They would have achieved two things by doing this 1) Not losing face 2) they would have refrain from "dubbing" a whole community (somalis) as terrorists. I am sure those poor gentlemen Soomaali ku sheeg ayaa tiftifay, oo been ku maagay, kuna eeday, only because they supported the other political group they, the said Soomaalis, despise. Soomaali sidii hore ma'aha ee iska jir, especially at the fadhi ku dirirada. I think kuwa waalan inay joogaan, oo basaasnimo iyo jaajuus ka dhigtay shaqadooda. Emperor Posted October 10, 2008 Its good news that they are cleared of any wrong doing, no more bad name for the Somali community, we have enough of our problems lets hope that nothing is brought up against them anymore.
