Jacaylbaro Posted March 11, 2009 Since the time Somaliland proclaimed, it took back independence again from the Rest of Somalia nearly two decades ago, there has been diplomatic ties between Somaliland and Britain, in terms of development sector as well as politically. Delegations from both countries visit different capitals also officials from Hargeisa have used their national passport to visit to the UK, Somaliland passport is not recognized anywhere else in the world. This kind of progressive steps reached so far and can prove bilateral relationship between two nations. few days ago Somaliland current president H. E. Rayale had come to London for official visit after he got invitation from British foreign secretary David Miliband, He is the first Somaliland president ever to meet one of the British high dignitary official, they had discussed many things include how Somaliland will be helped financially for the coming presidential election, President gave report Mr. Miliband about the situation of Somaliland at the moment, and what has caused the delayed election, he said Somaliland Electoral Commission had confirmed that it’s not possible to hold election at the schedule date, then they informed anybody concern in order to make consultation, after long session among three national political parties and NEC National Electoral Commission they eventually agree to postpone and hold two months time. The president promised to hold free and fair election to promote democracy in Somaliland, he also insisted that Somaliland is the only nation in Africa has freedom of speech and transparent election can take place. He also visited Chatham House formerly known Royal Institute of International Affairs based in London, whose mission is to analyze and promote understanding major international issues and current affairs, he made historic speech and those attended were delighted with his speech. He urged anyone involve Somaliland development must work together to make dream in to a reality and emphasis that the success story of Somaliland attained for the past years was miracle but international community failed to support . All those achievements solely made by Somalilanders although they didn’t get any tangible support towards their struggle for recognition. Somaliland has built a society live side by side with peace and stability, this created respect and unity among different tribes whom used to fight each other in early 1990’s and eventually ended the hatred and hostility behaviour among them. History writes itself not by the human being. I would like to say history is made and no one can deny what president Rayale had accomplished from the time he sworn to office more than ten years ago. Although I’m not one of ruling party supporters but I have to tell truth rather being having blindness vision, which is common in Somaliland politics. Finally, there is no doubt Somaliland one day will be recognized sooner or later, we won’t be disappointed and will continue our hard work to overcome main obstacles of how to gain recognition from rest of the world. Western countries are confused the prolonged war in Somalia and it’s time to be given chance and lift sanction and isolation. Abdurazak Abdullahi Kahiye London –UK.
