Las Anod(QARAN)- At least 40 former members of the Puntland militia who have deserted from their regional administration arrived in Las Anod accompanied by the Governor of Sool and senior officers of the Somaliland Defence Forces.

These unarmed men, who had already surrendered their weapons to the Somaliland Defence Forces were debriefed at the regional offices in Las Anod, and expressed their appreciation for the warm welcome they had received upon their return.

These are not the first ex-Puntland militia members who had decided to return and the last few months had seen a steady flow of returning residents of Sool formerly aligned with the Puntland militia.

On the other hand there has been no movement in the Somaliland Defence Forces positions around the eastern borders of Somaliland. According to several senior officers, these positions are constantly being re-enforced and the intention of the Defence Forces are to hold and stabilise the area.
