Abtigiis Posted January 6, 2009 What Ethiopia wants is for the Alshabab to be crushed. It also wants the formation ofa 'satellite' government in Somalia. If it can't achieve this, turmoil and anarchy in Somalia is the second best option. Or maybe the first. So, is it not blatantly clear to all now, that Nuur Cadde and Shariif's agreements amount to nothing? Is it not clear that any agreement which doesn't bring Alshabab onboard has zero chance of bringing stability in Somalia? Is it not so clear that what is being presented as a Djibouti agreement was parochial?
Juje Posted January 6, 2009 Somali opposition cautions against elections without parliamentary unity January 5, 2009 Markacadeey Djibouti based Alliance for the Re-liberation of Somalia [ARS] has cautioned against the move by a section of the Members of the Federal Somali Parliament in which they are planning to elect a president before divisions among the MPs are resolved. In a press statement issued by the Djibouti based ARS led by Shaykh Sharif Shaykh Ahmad, the group cautioned against electing of a president for Somalia before the divided parliament is re-united. [somali MPs are divided into two, one group supporting the resigned Somali president, Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmad and the other, Prime Minister Nur Hasan Husayn]. The statement by the Djibouti based ARS said some Somali MPs who are in Nairobi, Kenya have embarked on electing a president before divisions among members of the Somali parliament have been resolved. The Djibouti based ARS said this can be a set back to the Djibouti agreement between the Transitional Federal Government of Somalia [TFG] and their Alliance. Mahmud Ahmad Nur alias Tarsan, a member of the Djibouti based ARS was asked about the presence of Ethiopian troops in Somalia since today is the deadline in which the Ethiopian government has said it will withdraw their troops from Somalia. He responded by saying that the deadline for the withdrawal of Ethiopian troops from Somalia has not yet elapsed and will do so midnight tonight. The press statement by the Djibouti based ARS also called upon insurgent groups who are fighting in the country to halt the attacks and work towards the attainment of peace. They urged the insurgents to take advantage of the victory [in which they have managed to drive out Ethiopian troops out of Somalia] The Djibouti based ARS at last called upon the international community to support in the implementation of the Djibouti agreement and provide urgent humanitarian aid to those who are displaced in the country.
