Juje Posted August 28, 2009 Reer Xaaji Xassan are one of the few core families of Galkacyo am sure C/raxman will bring unity, experience, and forwardness to stability and peace in city. Kudos and good luck to him.
General Duke Posted August 28, 2009 ^^^The name is not important, its the action that he needs to take. The admin of the city, the new council, the mayor and the governor [yet to be appointed] need to foster a new city ethos of hard work, transparency and accountability. The city of Galkacyu is far to important to be neglected as it has been.

If the name is not important to you, why did you oppose Ina-Gaaweeto post in which he described that the problem of Galkacyo could be solved through power sharing blance. Duke, you only employ intelectual theories when scoring your political points. Juje is right and all he meant, is nothing but what he knows about Haji Hassan family. Hence, fasten your fasting belt and fear Allah!
General Duke Posted August 28, 2009 ^^^Hunguri adeer what are you talking about? Juje is right Xaji Xasan May Allah bestow his mercy on him, was one of the founders of the city of Galkacyu. Yes indeed, but that does not mean the name will get the new mayor any results, its his actions that will speak for themselves. I am happy with this choice, and I wish him the best. But we need competence and not names, as for Ina-Gaaweeto he had no point whatsover. Galkacyu's problem was incompetence and not sub clan divisions, the city population was always well respresented. Dr Ligle Posted August 28, 2009 Duke, with all due respect galkacyo being neglected doesn't give them the excuse to kill the information minister or cause instability for the region as a whole!!! If they have issues they need to use the political route like all other states. By the way, you seriously forget to mention that Galkacyo was being sorted out, why you think seefta banaanka was there in the first place? u think he was there for vacation? The problem is alot deeper then that and usually those who can see past the big picture grasp the finer details!!! Anyways like i said, time will tell. We will wait and see!!! Dr Ligle Posted August 28, 2009 Che-Guevara, galkacyo is shared city. It is majority abdullahi yusuf sub-clan. If u put sub-clans up against sub-clans the percentage wise is plain simple. Anyways the fact remains puntland controls all the important parts of the city, The rest are just degaans. If puntland isn't the majority why are they ruling all the important parts of the city like th down-town, airport, and majority of the deegans except baraxleey. To challenge such baseless argument really doesn't require any major refutation, but just common sense!!!
General Duke Posted August 28, 2009 ^^^Che, indeed Galkacyu has grown to be one of the largest cities in all of Somalia. This is due to its peace and stability in comparison to other cities in the south. Also a huge population originally from Mudug moved back to the city as they were expelled from the southern areas notably Mogadishu. Another important factor is that many rural communities from Mudug have moved to the city looking for work. However the city is dominated by its traditional inhabitants. North & South the pattern is still the same with few exceptions. Xaji Xasan is one of the original members who made modern Galkacyu.
Che -Guevara Posted August 28, 2009 Ina-Gaweto and Duke...I'm not talking north vs south, just within the north how could ascertain the population breakdown. I think people are guestimating. Duke..How old is the city?
General Duke Posted August 28, 2009 ^^^Quite old the modern city much like most Somali towns emerged in colonial time. As for Galkacyu the population majority is well known, there is no doubt Che, I know you have issues with those clans but their number is in no doubt. Galkacyu, Bacadwayne, Xarfo all the way to Burtinle[Nugaal] and even the villages and towns in Mudug have grown vastly over the past decade.
General Duke Posted August 28, 2009 Somalia: Puntland businessman elected new Galkayo mayor 27 Aug 27, 2009 - 6:26:18 PM GALKAYO, Somalia Aug 27 (Garowe Online) - A relatively unknown businessman has won a peaceful mayor’s election in the city of Galkayo, defeating the incumbent mayor in an election monitored by Puntland State’s leadership, Radio Garowe reports. The mayor’s election took place Thursday in Galkayo, capital of Mudug region. Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed “Farole,” the president of Puntland, and Vice President Abdisamad Ali Shire were among attendees at the ceremony. The 31-member Galkayo District Council, including five women, has been re-established in a community-based process involving the city’s important stakeholders, including the business community, traditional elders and Islamic clerics, Puntland officials said. Col. Ahmed Ali Salad, Galkayo’s former mayor, competed against a local businessman named Abdirahman Mohamdu Haji. With 29 District Councilors present, Mr. Haji received 20 votes and was declared the winner by the election committee. The former mayor offered a brief speech, saying that he welcomes the “democratic election” and pledged to work with the new mayor. Mr. Haji, who is relatively unknown in local politics, vowed to bring major changes to Galkayo, a city still reeling from the assassination of Puntland Information Minister Warsame Abdi “Sefta Bananka” earlier this month. He urged the local community, particularly traders, clan elders and Islamic scholars, to assist him as he endeavors on the task of instituting an effective municipal administration for Galkayo. “I will work with government organs and aid agencies,” Galkayo’s new mayor said. Separately, the Galkayo District Council elected the council’s new chairman. The old system in Puntland recognized the mayor and the district council chairman as the same person, but some changes were made to the selection criteria and the two offices were made separate of each other. President Farole, who gave the keynote address, thanked the election committee, the mayor’s candidates and members of the district council. “I will soon appoint public officials to key government posts in Mudug [region],” Puntland’s leader said, while specifically saying that he will appoint a new governor, a new security committee and a new police commander. Galkayo is located in central Somalia, at the crossroads between the relatively stable Puntland regional government and south-central Somalia, where Islamist insurgents are battling to overthrow Somalia’s UN-backed Transitional Federal Government. Puntland administers most of Galkayo, including the city’s small airport and key checkpoints to control the flow of traffic.
