There is no doubt that we face a tough, daunting time and a long struggle to reestablish a normal functioning state out of the Somali republic.

 

The TFG has done its best to survive against all odds, its leaders have made mistakes, but that experiments positives out way the negatives specially when it comes to effect it has had in shoring up the Puntland state. Today what has Somalia got but the TFG constitution, its Parliament and executive? After Yusuf there will be another leader and those who hate Yusuf will hate that next leader regardless of which clan he comes from and what region he represents. The issue to these naysayers is not the individual or the multitude of excuses they make, buts its easy to criticise and easier to oppose than to help build a system. They fear the future and are hostages to the past. Not in Puntland, in that state we [those who support it] are the expectant group, we crave peace and normality and hold a vision of Somalia that's grander than the bog standards are adversaries have come accustomed to.

 

For 17 years Puntland and the people that are aligned with the state have suffered a great deal, they lost their homes in the south and targeted for massacres and bondage by groups led by political extreme viewpoints.

 

Today Puntland is no longer as weak as it once was and not as strong as it should be. However we must realise the distance the people have travelled and how much they have achieved. It was after all a new idea, not a rehash of colonial history or a copy cat of the new fads of the age. Puntland was a new idea, prioritising once local interest without forsaking the unity of the country, the unity of the people.

 

Puntland was a an idea that united a huge area a large clan. Now it is a decade old, it has survived internal wars and external clan Jihads, it has checked the ambition of the secessionists and their drivers without causing much suffering.

 

Alas it has suffered also at the hands of the old guard, the Colonel while its champion has not delivered the many promises. The Genaral at the helm has made mistakes and the symptoms are the latest vacuums. Thus today we have the promise of a large pro unity region at peace, with grand ambitions even its criminal class have grand ideas and innovations hence the pirates. Its admin has brought Oil exploration and management of the ports. Its election has brought competent and capable leaders from the diaspora. We have universities, and port projects and hospitals and many other developmental projects.

 

However what many Somali's do not see and have yet to witness is the change in the wind, the whispers spoken within the new guard, a revolution is coming, change that will usher in the Young Turks. Thus Puntland will reinvent itself and move beyond the old guard.

 

The Young guards are coming and the project is still on course.....

In conclusion I would like to summarise my short post, its important to note that many things have been achieved since 2004 and this is directly related to Puntland, its no longer threatened by its rivals, its for the first time at peace with all its neighbours and it finds itself on the crossroards for change. The most profound change will be gone with the old and in with the new. Innovation of the political landscape. Puntland should no longer be at ease with Yusuf, Cade, Xasan Abshir. It needs to move away from the old guard and it will.
