Puntland Political Forum Hails PM Hamza Barre’s Historic Laascaanood Visit as Boost for National Unity

GAROWE (PP News Desk) —  The Puntland Political Forum has hailed Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre’s historic visit to Laascaanood and described the visit as a significant step towards national unity.

In a statement  shared with the media, the Forum also welcomed the full integration of the SSC-Khaatumo Administration into the Federal Member States of Somalia, calling it a milestone in strengthening territorial unity and promoting cohesion among the Somali people.

The Forum had called on people represented by  both the SSC-Khaatumo and Puntland to deepen their cooperation and urged Puntlanders to intensify their support for the SSC-Khaatumo Administration.

“The  Forum urges the Puntland Government and political stakeholders in Puntland to convene a grand conference similar to the one held in 1998, in order to collectively deliberate on the second phase of state-building in Puntland” the statement reads.

Puntland Political Forum has expressed opposition to what it regards as unilateral amendments to the Puntland Constitution made in 2023 without broad-based consultation. The Forum’s objection to  the electoral model proposed by President Said Abdullahi Deni’s administration in the same year played a key role in the reinstatement of the 66-seat electoral model, effectively halting the incumbent government’s incomplete and contested decentralisation agenda in Puntland State of Somalia.
