An Open Letter to His Excellency Sheikh Shariif Sheikh Axmed

I must congratulate your Excellency in both your election victory and your long stand in keying a dialogue with various opposing ideals in our community in the hope of restoring the dignity and unity of our fragmented nation, and you've done so with tremendous honor and integrity. The hopeful and the peace loving Somalis have turned out in full force to say, “You’re our hope. We’ll take you up on your promise of creating an effort of restoring peace.” Despite how much I’d love to celebrate with you, your Excellency, I fear that the realities of our time may not permit us.

My president, I must shed light to the fact that you stood to represent a 20 year track record of anarchy; divided people and mindsets; an economy that is in shambles; territories that are occupied by extremists and warlords; piracy and lack of sovereignty on your bodies of water; and a nest of poverty and violence. You are known to be the leader of a list of unfortunates and are expected to lead the hopeless nation into a new era of peace and stability. Nature assures me that you ask how?

Islamic Law with evolutionary approach

Your Excellency, history orates to us the solution to your complicated equation is the implementation of a practical Islamic law. You might question the failures of the Union of Islamic Courts, as you know best your Excellency; the approach of their association as a disparate and loosely held courts for the mutual promotion of virtues and prevention against vice, was in essence more of social revolution which captured international headlines than creating unwanted enemies both within the community and abroad. With those same Islamic principles of justice and equality, your Excellency you must now redirect your command to an evolutionary approach, allowing time and awareness to create acceptance in both the traumatized Somali community and our neighbors abroad.

History witnessed that the generation of our fathers were left quite ignorant about the reality of Islam and lagged behind by the educational system that was installed by the colonials. They were told that Islam was a religion embracing worships, the afterlife was a promise, and mystic practices were a definite value. They were taught that the Holy Qur’aan was to be read in order to get rewards for the afterlife without emphasizing on its wisdom and interpretations.

They were never taught about Islam as a socio-economic system of government or as legal principles that include a just economic system, codes of civil and criminal law, and a well balanced social order. With respect to the colonial legacy, a sudden revolution will result in an opposition with the populous and enormous criticism from the Diaspora. Your Excellency, you must implement the TFG constitution that you took the oath for, and increase your effort of Islamic law awareness through the educational system with respect to time.

Security

The sovereignty of a state is measured by the ability that it can protect and provide security to its people. You must prioritize in creating properly equipped and disciplined forces that are trained in various civic operations that can provide internal security in a professional manner. You must create a committee of responsible men who can recruit indiscriminatory while marketing to the entire Somali’s the opportunities of the profession.

You must re-create the Somali national navy to safeguard our bodies of water from both pirates and foreign trespassers. You need another committee made up of educated individuals who can create projects to reach out to the international community to contribute because of the global effect of this issue.

Equality and the abolishment of the 4.5 system

{And when you judge between people you judge with justice} (Qur’aan 4:58)

Equality and justice have a complimentary relationship to development and social progress. The region that you govern has a record of oppressive and tyrant rulers who left you to inherit masses that are very critical and suspicious of authority. The former leaderships fell due to their aggressiveness with the tool and abuse of authority not seeing through the rights and freedom of the masses. It’s wise to follow the logo of Abu Bakr As-Sidiiq as he stated, “obey me so long as I obey Allah, and if I disobey Allah I should no longer be entitled to your obedience.” The 4.5 system is visibly a sign of injustice, and you must make it clear that you have future agendas towards it.

Conclusion

Surely, Islamic practical law is best fit for the republic, and as our historical, geographical, and international positions show, Islam is our only means to regain peace, stability, and social justice. You must prioritize in engaging Islamic awareness slowly and steady to create acceptance in both the community and our neighbors abroad. Congratulations again your Excellency and may Allah guide you to restore the state.

“Salaam at home, Salaam abroad”

Nicely Put but without a major amendment to the Constitution and declaratory Recognition of civil society and grass roots movement in every region, his administration would still fail short and might imitate the same bad policies of the grubby past.

How does the following strike you:

you must implement the TFG constitution that you took the oath for

If it is true that the sheikh's alliegance is to the TFG constitution then he is on the wrong fought and no better then the others.

I need a little bit of clarity here, is the Sheikh no longer part of the UIC?
