Liibaan Posted June 21, 2009 Somalia: Parliament Asks Foreign Troops to Come Within 24 Hours 20 June 2009 Mogadishu — The transitional parliament speaker Sheik Aden Mohamed Nor, better known as Madobe, Saturday held a press conference in Mogadishu and asked the international community to send foreign troops to Somalia within the following 24 hours. The speaker of the parliament talked on other matters in his press conference in the capital, and demanded foreign troops from neighboring countries like Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Yemen, saying that the government's power is on the verge of being defeated by Islamist forces in the Somali capital. Sheik Aden Madobe said that the decision was approved by the Somali parliamentarians, who agreed to ask the international community to send troops to protect and save the transitional government, adding that the existence of the TFG is at risk. On the other hand Sheik Aden Madobe told reporters that the fighting against the government is led by a senior leader of Al-Qaeda who is from Pakistan. He reiterated that neighboring countries will also be attacked and be in a danger if the transitional government is toppled, pointing out that the Somali government is an emergency situation. The statement of the speaker comes when there is heavy fighting between the government soldiers and the Islamist forces in the north of Mogadishu.
