Finally the warlords are coming to their senses...

Recommended Posts

Windtalker You got to be optimistic bro regardless of the bleak picture you painted. However, this is going to be very hard and at times one may think that only way is for these Culprits to die before any good can come off since the Somali masses dont know what power they hold in their hands and dont really give adamn about what is happening. As long as the Somalis are divided along the crude lines of Clans there is no hope. So until there comes such times as when we realise Clanism has been used to keep somalis divided and from uniting and developing themselves, there would be no success. These people play the clan card so well that the people they represent dont know how bad they are. Divide and rule was once used by the whites in Africa but now its perfected by the warlords. So fellow Somalis and fellow coutryless people lets fight this cancer and bigotry and lets put these people in their place by compaigning against them for the next century if not 100 years. For if we dont stand as one we may never have acountry or clan/region.

I believe the MASSES hold the power and can make a difference and that is if they know it.

Somalia deal 'must be enforced'

A peace deal is emerging after more than a decade of fighting

Kenya has urged all sides not to derail the Somali peace process it has been encouraging with reconciliation talks.

The Kenyan foreign minister said any attempt to frustrate the advances brokered by his country would be met with "decisive punitive measures".

Earlier this week Somalia's warlords and politicians agreed to establish a new parliament.

The deal paves the way for the setting up of the first recognised national government in Somalia for 13 years.

Since the fall of President Siad Barre, Somalia has had no central authority and been wracked by civil war.

'Restraint'

Kenyan Foreign Minister Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka said that there was widespread support for the peace process.

"The international community will not stand by and watch these efforts undermined or derailed by any group or leader bent on promoting their selfish and narrow interest."

Q&A: Somali peace deal

The recent agreement would reunite Puntland with the rest of Somalia, six years after it declared itself autonomous.

In his warnings, Mr Musyoka referred specifically to Puntland and the breakaway republic of Somaliland.

He called on both their leaders to "exercise maximum restraint by reducing tension that could escalate into a fresh conflict".

Mr Musyoka was speaking on behalf of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (Igad), the six-nation group mediating the peace process.

The talks in Kenya are the 14th attempt to secure

Good point, but to use your analogy from Kenya and Ethiopia's perspectives, if your neighbour's house was on fire... how could you rest securely in your own? Wouldn't you try to help? And if you weren't genuinely concerned for your neighbour's well-being, then wouldn't you at least try to stop the fire so it doesn't reach your house?

Analogies aside, I don't think Kenya and Ethiopia are in the same boat because their involvement in Somali affairs is fueled by differing ulterior motives. Based on how it jumps back and forth between alliances with various regions and warlords, Ethiopia's involvement is a poorly masked attempt to pit Somalis against each other. On the other hand, I think Kenya's involvement is more genuine and less adversarial.... even though the underlying motives are equally self-serving.

Salaama.
