Nairobi, Kenya (APA) - Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki on Monday urged the newly elected Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed to reach out to all warring factions in his war-torn country and include them in his new administration.

The Somali President who arrived in Nairobi on Sunday for an official visit is expected to jet out of the country on Tuesday for Bujumbura, Burundi for a similar visit.

Kibaki pointed out that the future development, peace and security of Somalia would only come about when the people of the country agreed to place their personal differences aside.

He assured the Somali President that Kenya would continue supporting peace efforts in Somalia and called for the operationalisation of the Joint Commission of Cooperation between the two countries launched in March last year.

According to a presidential statement issued to the press in Nairobi, Kibaki congratulated President Sheikh Sharif on his election by a parliament that now had more members drawn from a broader range of stakeholders.

The Somali President briefed Kibaki on the recent political developments in Somalia, particularly the formation of the government and briefed him on his road map to stabilise the country.

“We will speak to those who want peace in our country,” said the Somali leader.
