Garowe (PP News Desk) — The Puntland Government has officially distanced itself from comments made by Deputy Minister of Information Yaqob Abdalla in the Daily Telegraph story on the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza suggested by some Israeli government officials. In a press release signed by the Information Minister of Puntland State of Somalia Mohamud Aidid Dirir, the Ministry of Information has clarified that the remarks were solely the personal views of the deputy minister and did not reflect the official position of the Puntland State of Somalia.

“Puntland Government respects the rights of Palestinians to live in peace and prosperity in their country. As a member of both the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Somalia has a historical commitment to supporting Palestine” reads the statement.

The Federal Republic of Somalia supports a solution to the Palestine question on the basis of 1967 borders and sovereign state for Palestinians.
