The explosions occurred as Puntland forces conducted ongoing military operations in the mountainous region, where anti-ISIS campaigns have been underway since last month. Meanwhile, Puntland forces reported that they had fully regained control of Dharin, an area in Togjacel within the mountains that ISIS militants had held for several years. A brief statement from the military operation confirmed that some ISIS fighters were killed during the offensive, while others managed to escape. Puntland intensified its military campaign, supported by U.S. airstrikes, to dismantle ISIS’s command structure and eliminate key leaders in the region. On February 1, U.S. forces conducted airstrikes that killed several high-ranking ISIS commanders, further boosting the effectiveness of Puntland’s ground operations. The Al-Miskaat mountains remain a critical stronghold for ISIS militants, making the ongoing offensive a strategic priority for Puntland in its efforts to restore stability and security in the region.
