Abu-Salman Posted March 29, 2008 Ethiopian Foreign Minister and TPLF's number 2 Seyum Mesfin: The issue of Somaliland can not be solved through force. There should be dialogue and the question of wether to reconstitute Somalia be faced. I do share your opinion that Somalia should not be reconstitued on the past model. [...]I agree with you, somalia can not return to its past state. A new reality has emerged. The different Somali regions insist in favor of devoluted state structures. Somaliland actively favors a secession. So, there is indeed a new reality in Somalia. Somalis should face it.
Abu-Salman Posted March 29, 2008 At least 10 people have died and many have been hurt as Ethiopian forces backing the Somali government shelled Mogadishu's main market, witnesses say. The attack was launched after mortar rounds landed on the Somali president's official residence while he was holding talks with Ethiopia's foreign minister. No-one was injured in that attack, a presidential aide told Reuters. [...]It is thought that President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed and Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin were discussing a plan to hold peace talks in Nairobi between the Somali government and its opponents when the attack on the residence was launched.(BBC News, 29 March 2008)
xiinfaniin Posted March 29, 2008 ^^Abu-Salman, akhi, this is no news! Ethiopia's preference in the future form and shape of the former Somali republic is well known. Somaliland's status has gained a new political visibility in the last few months. Ethiopia has been one of the few silent forces that heavily lobbied Somaliland's political recognition (she is not foolish enough to lobby for a full separation at this juncture though). The fact her chief foreign affairs makes a much bolder pronouncement today about how he sees the way forward for the future political settlement of Somalia is a timely move for Ethiopia to appeal for the secessionist camp in the light of increasing volatility in south Somalia! One should not blame Ethiopia though (a country that sits on a volcano of various ethnic groups with deep grievances against current system) for her effort to tame Somalis lest they gather strength and pose real challenge to the very identity of her country. So no news there---divided people, as we are, are prone for the kind of exploitation Ethiopia is employing on us.
Emperor Posted March 29, 2008 What? and says who? This interview was supposedly taken in Paris, November 2007 and hits the headlines just now... The purpose is to distort the real message sent to the seccess from the Arabs. Amir Musa of the Arab league clearly confirmed that he fully supports the AU for their position against the seperation of the Somali lands... No body can seperate Somalia least of all Ethiopia who's struggling against many armed opposition groups(Somali, Oromo and the Afars) for their desire to declare their own republic seperate from the rest of Ethiopia. Abu-Salman Posted March 29, 2008 In other words, the "government" is sacrificing so many lifes on both sides, just in order for the secession project, which Ethiopian leaders openly endorse, to succeed!
Abu-Salman Posted March 29, 2008 Precisely because of its marginalized Somalis (Oga-den has been described as the World Worst Humanitarian Crisis, dethroning darfur, by international agencies), Ethiopia is not interested in a functioning Somali entity, wether it be Somalia or "Somaliland", hence why the Strategic Port of Kismayo, the second city of Southern Somalia is left to another warlord, despite all the statements by the rival "president". "Les Nouvelles d'Addis" was founded by French interests, admirers of the "Christian Island", and specialize in advocating for Somalia partition as well as Djibouti's destabilization, mainly posting pro-secession "academic papers" alongside anti-Djiboutian propaganda. In this other much less formal "interview", one of their "journalists" suggests twice to a reluctant leader of the Oromo Liberation Front to cooperate with the FRUD armed splinter faction that opposes Djibouti peace agreement: Interview with the Chairman of the Oromo Liberation Front, Les Nouvelles d'Addis, Paris, March 29th, 2006. Fabregas Posted March 30, 2008 What did you expect from a Habashi leader? An independent SOmaliland, heavily armed, and funded by the West can act as freindly buffer between the Lawless Ocaden region, Southern Somalia. It also acts a a gurantee for save port usage! Ethiopia is fighting multiple insurgencies: Somaliland is very resourceful in this regard.! Regional tribal warlords fighting amongst themselves and allowing vital acess to Somali resources(to steal) is indeed a blessing to Her(or those dictators should I say)! As the war over resources heats up in Northern Somalia, those leaders of the tribal region will attempt to gain a monopoly on oil deals and other lucrative contracts( for the old men at least)! Watch even PL declare itself more and more independent from the boys in Muqdisho! I should expect the Ethiopian adminstration to figure or at least be in the back alleys of any tussles of oil contracts in Northern Somalia! Meanwhile, the intellectual diehards will scream that little towns have been captured by other evil clan warriors. Not realising............

As i said before, Hal hal baa loo soo xeroonayaa ,,,, Xiin is wise a man. He understands the reasons as to why hada, all of a sudden some powers are quietly pushing for Somaliland establishment! All of Somaliland's bids for recognition failed in the last 16 years. Now the last hope is to position themselves as realiable partners for the war on terror and encourage people to tap into the resources! All the other gestures didn't really convince anyone. Mr Riyaale effectively admitted the failure and the new hope: quote:"Though peace and stability have existed in our country for a long time, we have not been recognized and this has made us feel marginalized as, unlike other African countries, we do not receive funds from international donors. We are at war with the terrorists and we have hitherto untapped economic resources. We invite international investors to come and invest in this country without any hesitation" said Mr. Riyale as reported by the Geeska Africa newspaper which has been referring to the Ethiopian paper of Sub-Sahara published in Addis Ababa. Mr. Riyale told that the Americans have pledged that they will push the African governments with the aim of giving Somaliland a recognition, mentioning that the visit of Ms. Janday Frazer to Somaliland has been the outcome of the visit he and his delegation have paid to the US in the beginning of this year
