Sophist Posted October 11, 2007 Odweyne, how are you dear Sire? I was wholly disappointed with the announcement that the ambassador designate to London was not you; what were they thinking?
Sophist Posted October 11, 2007 Salaams, Uh, you never fail to raise up to the occasion my dear Sire. The comment was merely made as a result of the insight one has within the working of SL’s political appointments of late, as such I thought a gent of such illustrious standing should have been given -or you should have sought it out, if anything else just out of moral duty and this is not a case ‘asinus asinum fricat’ dear lad. Then again, dreams are just that. Nothing but the product of involuntary reactions of one’s clerbral neurons hard at work as the conscious takes leave momentarily—you dear lad, had been labouring under the false believe that a tiny clan can be a nation because our adopted country (Britain) has once ruled over it? How such a gimmick can be sold to someone who has been at the receiving end of higher education is enigma to us all. Then again the tribal feeling of that part of SOMALIA has always ruled supreme above anything that either physically or metaphysically existed within your kin. Dear lad, I am sure one day, not very long, ( if you gracefully accept it) I will invite to my white washed Vila in Lasa Surad on the beach (35 miles away from Xiis, your ancestral home) and sip sweet tea under that Galool tree whilst the blue flag hoisted above us. We shall rejoice our little tit tatu on SOL!. Eid Mubarak yaa Awoowe. Rgrds, Sophist

Jacaylbaro Posted October 16, 2007 Breakaway Somali republic advances into Somalia BOSASSO, Somalia, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Troops from the breakaway Somali republic of Somaliland on Monday seized a village inside a rival region loyal to the interim Somali president, killing at least 10 people, witnesses said. Somaliland, which broke off from Somalia when civil war erupted in 1991 and has governed itself since, ran troops from the neighbouring Puntland region out of the village of Las Anod and had threatened to move further east into Puntland. "Ten dead people are lying in the streets of Las Anod," radio operator Mohamed Abdullahi told Reuters from the village which had until Monday been under Puntland's control since 2002. Puntland, a semi-autonomous province, is allied to the fractious transitional federal government that is struggling to impose central rule over the Horn of Africa nation. "Somaliland troops have captured the entire village and 100 Puntland troops. Somaliland has warned that if Puntland troops try to come back, they would not mind going deep into Puntland territory," a security official who tracks Somalia said. The latest battle between the rival regions further complicates the fortunes of President Abdullahi Yusuf, who was president of his native Puntland before his election to national office in late 2004. Somaliland's leaders detest Yusuf, a former warlord who invaded their capital Hargeisa in the late 1990s, and have refused to join his government -- now mired in a persistent insurgency and political split that has paralysed it. Puntland and Somaliland for years have fought over their border, which was made when Britain took Somaliland as its colony and Italy the rest of what is now modern-day Somalia. There were conflicting reports on whether Somaliland troops had advanced further into Puntland toward its capital Garowe, about 90 km (56 miles) to the east. Somaliland's Defence Minister Abdillahi Ali told reporters that Somaliland troops had control of the checkpoint on the road to Garowe. A diplomat that tracks Somalia from Nairobi told Reuters Somaliland had advanced 25 km east of Las Anod. Puntland officials had no comment except to say Puntland President Adde Muse was flying back to Garowe from Djibouti. Puntland's military strength has waned since Yusuf took many of its militias for security since returning to Somalia in 2005. Somaliland argues it should be given its own sovereignty since it has held democratic elections and done what most of the rest of Somalia has not since 1991 -- provide stability and relative security. Jacaylbaro Posted October 16, 2007 Somaliland Defence Forces advance beyond Laas Canood Laas Canood(Qaran)-The Somaliland Defence Forces have taken position on the eastern side of Sool region. This situation arose today as Somaliland Defence Forces repelled an ill-conceived and poorly executed attack by the milita from Puntland. The aim of the Puntland militia was to ostensibly captured or kill Axmed Cabdi Xaabsade, a former member of the Puntland administration and a Laas Canood native. This attempted assassination has failed. However, the Somaliland Defence Forces were able to thwart this advance by the Puntland militia, which led to the attackers fleeing the area, and leaving behind a substantial amount of arms and prisoners. Reports coming from Laas Canood have confirmed that the Somaliland Defence Forces are in control of all of Laas Canood, as well as all the main access points into the town. These reports further verify that the Somaliland Defence Forces are currently position on the road between Laas Canood and Garoowe. In a further development from this morning events in Laas Canood, three officers and eighty prisoners from the Puntland militia captured in the fighting in Laas Canood are presently being processed at the town of Oog, whilst several unconfirmed reports suggest that most of these prisoners have been moved west to the city of Burco and beyond. Among the hardware captured from the Puntland militia are at least fifteen armoured vehicles, known locally as Teknikos, an ABM barrage and countless other small arms and ammunition's. There has been no official confirmation of casualties from either side. Qarannews's reports are currently in Laas Canood along with news groups from both Somaliland and abroad, and Qarannews will be update the situation in Laas Canood as it develops.
